Evenng chaps.
That was a stupid challenge.
:wtf:
I check the boards as Ovi scores. I come back a few minutes later and it 2-1?
I'm not watching, but Geez.
2 goals on 11 shots. That's a GAA of .818 :)
I thought he had control, hence I thought it was a very, very questionable call.
looked like a good challenge to me, to say the player had control of that coming across the line is a stretch

That was a rubbish 2nd period.
Can we stay out of the penalty box please? :headbang:
Can THE ISLES stay out of the penalty box please?
Our PP is pathetic. PP can't deal with any sort of pressure and Trotz knows it and is playing us to perfection there. He is outcoaching Reirden.

Great pass by Panik

first time in his career he’s had 3 multi goal games in a row
Holtby isn’t doing a good job trying out for his next team is he 🤣His contract price keeps going down with each game he plays. It's sad to watch. Sammy looks so much calmer and in control in net.
Ovie has to do it all himself apparently. Glad Sammy is in there.
this team has not been playing at the same level for Holts as they do for Sammy, this isn’t Holtbys faultFair assessment. Not saying Holtby is playing well but to get out of this slump the team needs to tighten up defensively.
WTF
:8z:
WOW
:)

Does this mean you accept the position? ;D
See what happens when I'm around. :P
:9z:
TIE GAME BABY!!!
these motherpuckers, where was this team in the 1st and 2nd?
Hanging out with Holtby together :snicker: :snicker:
too bad I'm not actually watching it. :(
too busy browsing the web??
:lmao:
Boy, Reirden really learned how to coach fast.Yeah, he put Sammy in net!
If Trotz is so much better, why can't he figure out a way to stop the onslaught?
Boy, Reirden really learned how to coach fast.
Too bad Ovi is slowing down so much in his old age :P
the team should publicly apologize to Holts for playing like shit in front of himNo kidding. I don't get it. They make the swith to Samsonov and they were a completely different team. Never mind free agency. I think Holtby should ask for a trade.
Yeah, he put Sammy in net!

Although.....Not our worst option though.
IMO....Ovi has NO business being out there with a 1 goal lead in closing minutes. I mean I know EVERYONE wants him to get the Hattie, but Ovi really is a defensive liability.
What's more important? Winning the game or getting Ovi another Hattie?

Not our worst option though.
14 yrs ago today, OV scored "the goal" that had me become at first an OV fan but now I'm a caps fan.
Recreate some of that magic OV!
Not our worst option though.
Do you think they have a team that can win the cup? Yes they have the talent. Probably the most talented team in the league. But are they disciplined enough defensively to succeed in the playoffs?
Eh.
I'm sure he'd be happy having his name on the cup, again, even if as a backup

Sometimes a timely save can spark the team. Sammy made (2) 10 bellr's to start the 3rd and they were off.. Holtby can't stop a beach ball at the moment. Team probably gets deflated.
So regarding WHO should be on the ice with a one goal lead....
For me...defensively responsibly speaking....
Ziggy and Gudas on D for sure (+24, +10)
And either Eller line (+5, +9, +6)
or Dowds line (+11, +7, +7)
Ovi is a -13. He has 47P, minus 19PPP means he has -13 with 28P at ES...meaning he is on the ice for 41GA
Subtract a player's P at ES from his +/- and shows how many NET GA he is on for by the other team
Net GA for each player/line: SO the higher the number, the worse your net GA is....
Ovi 41
Backy 28
Willy 22
Eller 18
Hags 4
Panik 1
Dowd -1
Leipsic 3
Hathy 5
Kempny 7
Carlson 25
Orlov 9
Jensen 7
Gudas -10
Ziggy -1
Now I realize this is just a basic measure and does not reflect what lines the guys are playing against, but it does show some measure of relative positive and negative impact on opponent's ability (or at least statistical history) to score.
Like I said....Gudas and Ziggy for sure (who both have played far above my expectations this year)
and probably the Dowd line.
Whatever, I'll take the win and be happy
Now I guess I have to go home and actually watch the game.
Do you think they have a team that can win the cup? Yes they have the talent. Probably the most talented team in the league. But are they disciplined enough defensively to succeed in the playoffs?I do. When these guys are playing full steam they are seemingly unstoppable. If we stay healthy and somewhat rested we have a shot at another cup. As crappy as we've seen them play they are still dominating the standings.
Damn Ovies “on pace” for 61. . .
will have to watch the nhl news tonight, the past two days has been nothing but Sindy news.
Yeah, I heard his team mates all love him so much because he has such "soft hands" :P
Apparently they were not too soft to rub all the hair off Pierre's head ;)
He won't get 60, but I'd love for him to hit 50+ again. I think he will.
Hell, if he gets 20 more this year for 54, that would put him at 712 he could nearly catch Jagr at 766 next year (with another 54G year)
I think Ovi will catch Gordie at 801 before he retires. He would only need about 90 more after this season. I think he can average 30 over the next three seasons if he stays healthy
He’s maintained his .6 GPG, Gretzky didn’t get more than 30 when after he was 35. It’s a stretch, but it’s in reach. (at .6 GPG it will take him 5 seasons, maybe 6 as he’ll be pushing 40, to catch Gretzky)

No...he's definitely a threat to drive that coffin nail. But he's like a minus 13. The worst +/- on the team, which is hard when you consider how many points he is on for.
So then.... not sure WHO would be a worse option statistically speaking (maybe....Johnny Q Norris :snicker: )
Alot of the minus 13 is empty net goals against and shorthanded goals against. Have to remember that every time we give up an empty net goal all of our 6 on 5 guys get a minus. That would include guys like Backstrom, Kuzy, Carlson and Oshie as well.

I am not saying I necessarily believe this, but let me throw it out there.
Maybe the Capitals know they cannot afford to go full steam all the time or they will run out of it come the playoffs. Especially with plenty older guys leading the team. As you pointed out Rush, the Caps are a winning team and sit at the top of the NHL standings. It's enough at this point to put us in a most favorable position heading into the post season.
We are in great shape. We are healthy. And we have the firepower to SLAM other (good) teams, even from deep deficits almost at will.
Hell, our Vezina and Cup winning goalie is in a slump and we have a record breaking young fresh backup to fill in.
I would not trade this position with any other team in the NHL right now.As Caps fans we might be a tad spoiled. :uh-huh:

What you need is strong stable guys that will prevent the other team from scoring opportunities
