Do you think this will make any difference to the team?

Personally, I see them riding out the season and then when they don't do so well with how it's currently constructed, they'll blow it up. They'll trade Malkin and Letang in the off-season since they have one year left on their deals after this season. If for some reason they sink far down the standing and they don't have a chance to make the playoffs this year, all upcoming free agents and those two I've previously mentioned will be traded at the deadline.

I don't see Crosby being moved but I wouldn't say hextall and Burke are 100% against that if someone blows their socks off with the right offer.

Not sure how many people realize but had there not have been a lockout season, chances are Crosby would have been lining up at centre for this team instead of the penguins. Ovie wasn't going to come across to North America his first season anyway and the caps would have been in the basement of the NHL for sure. The percentages of the last place team getting the first overall pick were extremely higher at that point.
Had that happened, I'm sure the Penguins wouldn't even be in Pittsburgh anymore.

Well they'll trade Malkin and Letang for sure. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure who's a free agent at the end of the season but whoever is, they'll try to get assets for at the deadline.
Their prospect pool is probably one of the weakest in the league right now because Rutherford traded away so many draft picks and they need to accumulate young talent

Because I follow the whole league, not just the caps.
League info is easily accessible to Canadians because there is so much interest here with regards to hockey. On trade deadline day, sportsnet and TSN dedicate their whole day to The NHL. Same with July 1st when free agency usually opens up.
Our sportscentre on TSN will show every hockey highlight and analyze everything going on in the league for 20 min then speed through all other sports. In the States, they are lucky to get much more than 2-3 min dedicated to hockey in a 30 min sportscentre show on ESPN.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume Football(soccer) there is the main focus on your sporting news stations. Do they even show NHL highlights?

We also have the best developmental league in the world so I know players around the league before they are in it. I frequently go to watch junior games that caps prospects play in around me. Carlson and McMichael played an hour away from me in London(not your London) and I'd watch Burakovsky and Wilson when they'd come to Kitchener to play, always wearing my old school caps jerseys for the game.

It was ESPN that saved my life all those years ago.  It was ESPN that brought me to Ovi and consequently to the Caps.

I'm going to set you a challenge luvvie..
My favourite author is the late. great, Terry Pratchett.  The "Discworld" series.  II would suggest starting with "Mort"  The earlier ones make more sense after that...   Sort of.............

If they didn't get crosby, they would have never got the millions of dollars to pay Mario back. If the team still owed him money do you think he would have put forth the effort to keep the team there? I feel like that was set up for them to get the first overall pick. Pittsburgh was gone otherwise in my opinion.

I'm not a fan of fictional books. If I'm reading it's non fiction.

If you're interested on a hockey book that gives a great glimpse of hockey dating back to the early 50's, check out "Scotty A hockey life like no other" it's about the greatest hockey coach ever, Scotty bowman and 8 teams from 51-present day that he feels were the greatest ever assembled.

Mario wasn't the only one to put up money, that team wasn't leaving that city

Problem was people weren't going to the games. They were losing. As soon as they won the draft lottery everyone and their brother wanted to play there. Mario even tried to make a return. It wasn't about putting up money, it was about putting a competitive team on the ice so that people's butts would be in the seats. Winning the draft lottery saved the franchise.
