As the games mount up, the evidence is accumulating that, not only is it not the Caps' year this year, but that the franchise's 15-year run of Stanley Cup relevance in the Ovechkin era is coming to a close. There is no longer any reason to try to patch and scrape to find missing pieces in order to have a serious or semi-serious chance at a championship. It is time to work on transitioning to the next era, even if it violates Ted Leonsis' promise to Ovie to make a good faith attempt to win championships while he is here.
-
26 games in and I can officially say I'm not all that impressed by Kuemper, our defensive failings aside. On that 3rd goal, he has to get his ass out of the blue paint. The guy is coming straight in and he's backed up in the crease giving him the whole net to shoot at. You come out and take away his angle. This should be goaltending 101.

Exactly, The long run that started in 2009-10 is now ending. I think we had more wins than anyone in the NHL over that period up to last year. It was fun but the rebuild is here and has been for awhile.

Agreed and Backy and Carlson should not be "anchors" in that rebuild. For $8m a year you get a dump Carlson and get THREE better guys that actually play D and could still pass Ovie the puck on the PP
