The Washington Capitals can be the first Metropolitan Division team to secure a spot in the 2018-19 Stanley Cup playoffs on Thursday night.
If the Capitals can defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in any fashion, regulation or overtime, they will make it into the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
The Capitals can also clinch a spot if they lose in overtime or a shootout and the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets game is decided in regulation.
Alex Ovechkin can also become only the third player ever to score 50 goals in eight career seasons if he can light the lamp tonight against the Hurricanes.

Caps have to get it done in these last 5 games. 4-1 is needed if we're going to head into the playoffs with the proper momentum. It would be nice to get at least one from TB, too. I'd also recommend getting DSP back up here for the playoffs. If nothing else, he'll bring a physical presence which is always a necessity come playoff time.

4-1 sounds good, and so does beating Tampa, but IF we beat Tampa, which team is okay to lose to then? Canes / FLA / Havs / Isles?
I think 3-2 is reasonable, but I don't really want to lose to any of these next 5 opponents....not that I am expecting or even hoping to go 5-0.

Once again I gather from this board that the Caps played a bad game, but oh so luckily, Carolina played just a liiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit worse.
It's fortunate for the Caps that there are so many really bad teams in this league.

Great win and Caps for fifth straight year have 100 or more points. That is damn good folks. Holtby again stole this game for the Caps, it looks like he is ready for the playoffs. Nice to see the 4th line come up with the winning goal. Every line except the first line had a goal. Having balanced scoring is important.

Neither team played bad.. We gave up about 2x as many high scoring chances as we did Tues.. Holtby rallied and stoned em' in the 3rd. Our PP still sux and nobody can win a faceoff.. We win anyway.. Basic 2019 Caps hockey. lol

One reason I was hoping we didn't make playoffs was firstly the crap efforts that seems to happen too often. Second, is my Dad is coming to visit for a week on the 19th April. I haven't spent any time with him in decades where we were not busy as hell on a project, so we never really had any down time together. He's not a hockey fan at all, but he did say he would sit through a few games with me. He'll be 80 this year and I want to make the most of this time, but I also can't miss a Caps playoff game. Unless I feel we have a shot at going all the way it's hard to care so much. I have a hard time rooting for the kind of play I've seen lately. I definitely don't have the rock solid confidence I had last year.

All right folks someone said I wasn’t posting on here so here look I posted I am logging in yay ! ;)
So I had the fortunate opportunity to be in North Carolina at the time the CAPS happen to be playing tonight so when I found out I drove two hours from where I was knew that I was going to miss my flight so I decided to get a ticket to tonight‘s game and this was my first time seeing the caps play at this arena.
This was pretty crazy considering that there was probably an even amount of caps fans with canes fans and to be honest when they started doing their cheer you couldn’t tell whether they were saying let’s go capitals or let’s go canes.
Sat 2 rows away, lost my voice, wore my lucky Simon black jersey, had a blast. Now I get up in 4 hrs and get on a plane, oh the joys of traveling 85% of the yr for work.
