I am still mighty upset that the NHL refused to let its players participate but I am still looking forward to watching it.  I think Canada and Russia are favorites to win it but looking forward to see how USA does.  They could be a sleeper.

What a great thing to do and thanks for posting this Alta.
I only got to go to one Bears game, but what an incredible experience and what amazing fans.  Not surprising they did this really.
I will endeavour to watch more Bears games when the Caps aren't playing.

Good luck Chris!

The Soviet Union won it plenty because they sent their pro athletes against our amateurs. Hence Miricle On Ice. Russia has not won it. The two are not the same. Russia is missing about 8 countries the Soviet Union drew talent from

Love  it.  Before I got sick and could no longer work the H&K MP5SD fully automatic with integrated suppressor was next on my list of guns to buy.  I even had one lined up that was in pristine condition, transferable for $18K.  My son loved that gun too. That thing was so quiet and the integrated suppressor model is the same length as the standard MP5 without a suppressor.

I really think it's time for the Olympics to be extended by a couple days, it would give them room to reschedule an event because of weather as they clearly should have done for women's slope style with the wind. But also for the spectators, so they can see more events, instead of cramming everything into the fewest days possible.

I've got to watch some of the hockey.  I got a little confused about a few players.  Gionta isn't re-signed and therefore not controlled by the NHL.  Bishop I hadn't realised had left the NHL and a couple of others.
Great to see Datsyuk and a few other favourites again, for sure.

Some very weird and sloppy results.  Both USA and OAR losing after being 2 - 0 up.  That's just pure laziness and arrogance.  Serves them right.

Saw a few ladies matches also.  USA / Canada was awesome!

We finally got a medal!  Bronze in the skeleton!

Loads of fun so far.  The Flying Tomato flew.  The board X was carnage.

The last time I saw a performance like that was Calgary in '88, that was the last time the Soviet Red Army team won the gold. How ironic is it that Russian players will get their first gold, but not Russia.

um, my birthday as displayed here is not accurate, on purpose.

I remember exactly where I was while watching the Miracle On Ice, and the importantance of it, and that it wasn't even the Gold medal game. Herb Brooks left us far too soon. In '88 I remember the Flames had a 15 or 16 day road trip because the Saddeldome was being used for the Olympics, that's about when I became an Ijinla fan, must've been his rookie year. It amazing to look at places like Lake Placid because there is no way in hell they could host the games there now without quadrupling the size of the town, at a minimum.

at least Giorgio stopped with the spray tans

best show now is Oak Island, but the way it's getting dragged out is annoying. The Vikings were up there in 1000AD, the Templar fleet and a vast majority of their treasure has not been located. I've seen the Newport tower, and I'm convinced it's a Templar church of the 1300s. It's identical to surviving ones in Europe with the ambulatory removed. That's about the same time the Scotts were fishing the Grand Banks too. The North American continent was no secret at the time, and this is all a good 200 years before Columbus. I believe the Templars went two ways, one group can here at just about the same time Switzerland all of a sudden got a proper army for the time. There is a big group of historians that are not letting the pre Columbus history get written

I also think that if the library at Alexandria had not been burned we'd have a colony on Mars by now, at a minimum

USA women completely bossed the Finnish girls.  Bit of a shame for the Finnish goalie, Rati, but the team in front of her were completely out classed.  It's been an eye opener watching some of this women's hockey.  The skill levels are definitely up there.

U.S. men's hockey won tonight, 5-1 over Slovakia, they actually advance to the semifinals which means the medal games. They play the Czechs tomorrow at 10:10pm. If they win they get Bronze at a minimum

I've been thinking about the men's hockey team. From the first game to the last they had improved %110. The problem wasn't lack of talent, it was lack of familiarity. None of the men had played with each other until they all got to South Korea, where the women's squad plays together all the time. it makes a big difference for team chemistry. From what I saw, I think if the men's team had better chemistry they could've easily been medal contenders instead of barely making the semifinals.

But either way I still think Bettman ruined it for both the U.S. and Canada, most likely the Nordic countries too. What makes the NHL's decision to not allow players to attend the games made even less sense when the NHL announced it was going to play games in China to expand the brand.

The decision not to send NHL players to the Olympics is one of the most shortsighted decisions ever made by a sports league.  If you are trying to grow the game you want your players displayed in the largest watched sporting event on TV.  I know the games would not be shown in the ideal TV times but still you would get lots of coverage through out the games and a lot of discussion in the newspapers.  I just hope they don’t make the same mistake 4 years from now.

I wanted to but I'm too fricken tired. Been up since 4 am because the damn furnace quit working. Got pretty cold in the house last night. And I drank too much tonight. I'm done.

It's a pleasure and a privilege to watch Datsyuk on a big stage, this one last time. 8)

Russia score with 0.5 seconds left in the first.

Germany playing lights out and way beyond their pay grade. Russia being patient and measured.
Wonder if the German coach played the "Miracle On Ice" speech to his players???

Incidentally, throughout the hockey, we've only ever had two comms here.  One is an English fella and the other is an American.  No Shouty John for us, sadly.  They both know what they're talking about though.

Bloody good game so far.

I am in shock.  I thought I would watch the 1st period and that Russia would be comfortably ahead and I would go to bed.  Here I am still watching this unbelieable game.  Germany was so close to winning this game but blew it.  I don’t see them recovering from that and Russia will win.  It has been a hell odva game though almost as good as the womans gold medal game.

Win or lose, I think Germany are going back home as heroes.  What a stunning performance by them.  What a complete example of what hockey should be about.

Germany was definately the surprise of the tourney. Canada's team just wasn't that good of a team. With the NHLers not there it hurt a lot of the top hockey countries. I never had any doubt that Russia wouldn't win. I did think it would be an easier run for them.
