Morning all.
Let's hope that closed meeting helped....
that was obviously Holts faultLol.
obviously not. :-|
Don't think that touched Ovi, unfortunately..I couldn't tell if it hit Ovie or Boychuck
Don't think that touched Ovi, unfortunately..
4th line does a lot of possession w/ nothing to show for it. 6 legs and 1.5 hands, combined. :snicker:I'm a bit surprised Leipsic hasn't been scratched for Boyd.
What the fuck was Kempny doing on the 3rd goal? He just let the guy skate right by him and in front of the net. He's been marginal this year at best.
I'm a bit surprised Leipsic hasn't been scratched for Boyd.I absolutely loved Nate Schmidt and couldn't believe it when we left him exposed to the expansion draft. Not only was he good, but I really liked him as a person too.
I dunno but the guy we traded to Vegas is outplaying is out playing everyone in our bottom 6 other than Eller.

We could sure use him on our d core.

that’s 5 with Sammy in net... and his night is now done
on the bright side, this loss can now be blamed on Holtby
Doughnuts!
Kuzy is unlikely to return after leaving from that hit he took
WTF is that error message about no posts in this topic for 120 days?
Do you think maybe now the team will stop saying "It's not time to panic!"
What I mean is they can't act like everything is OK. We have serious problems, and they are mental.
Doubt it. They really can't afford to panic. Literally. Needs some leadership and coaching to get their head right. See how the west coast swing goes..
A few losses back, before the Philly loss, were surely good examples of low energy/attitude, team play, with Rierden, then having a 4 day GAP, following a WEAK victory against the bottom feeder LA Kings!
We then hear not even a mouse peep, about anything being worked on in practice, during this 4 day gap! Then they go to Philly and have their most pathetic, overall game of the season, as if all the players simply saw the prior “break”, during the week, as a VACAY!!!
It’s certainly seems that’s how they behaved, given their WORST performance of the year!
THEN....They have one of those “closed” locker room meetings, Rierden supposedly “gets pissed”, and if all rings true....these boys should have been coming out like GANG BUSTERS, against the Islanders tonight!! And NOT in a way that would have required us to “look closely”, in order to see a renewed effort!
Rather, it should have been OBVIOUS, and OVERWHELMING, PERIOD!!!..... BUT NO!!!
We certainly KNOW the Caps are capable of it! And we’ve witnessed almost unbelievable types, of 180° turnarounds, many times with this team, over the past 5 years!! AND YET, Tonite.....??
A truly honest assessment would SADLY indicate, NO REAL, observable change, overall!!
Puck watching, not moving the legs, being ok with GLIDING, rather than churning and SKATING, More unnecessary, or ill timed stretch passes, getting outhustled, just to name a few issues!!
Want more!! That’s easy!!...
How about attempting near meaningless, short spurts of effort, that are quickly quenched out, because we have a few players, whose immature, and undisciplined brains, “just can’t believe”, we didn’t score, and although they may understand as a professional player, that strong effort, needs to be SUSTAINED for longer than just one shift, they fail to self motivate, and like spoiled little brats, give the “self-ok”, to back off the pedal a bit! NOW...The BIG question!!
WHERE THE HELL IS RIERDEN?? WHAT HAS HE BEEN DOING, over the course of this pathetic slide??
And we’re supposed to be HAPPY, because our coaching staff, SUPPOSEDLY working on issues, since BEFORE CHRISTMAS, has come up with WHAT???.....Moving Oshie over to Ovi’s office spot, for ONE MEASLY GOAL, from an otherwise completely ANEMIC Power Play!!!
Sure am glad you really got “pissed” Mr. Rierden! You, and that pair of avocado-sized testicles, just fill that locker room with the combined smell of testosterone and machismo!! You fuckin BULLDOG, you!!
Lastly, for right now, anyway, pity our GOALIES!!

Kuzy is unlikely to return after leaving from that hit he tookWell, we didn’t give up a goal after he went out 🤣🤣🤣
Well, to be fair, Kuzy's +/- was a big fat zero, while the first line collectively was a -10. That's who was on the ice when the Isles were scoring at even strength.Well LETS JUST GIVE KUZY THE FUCKIN SELKE THEN!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And it's happened that way a few times in recent weeks. It appears there are times when Ovie/Backstrom/Wilson are either unmotivated or are somehow repeatedly being taken advantage of despite their motivation level. I am especially concerned about Ovechkin, whose workload has been heavy all year as he keeps trying to spit in the eye of Father Time. Today's NHL increasingly relies on team offense out of all players on the ice, which means that, conversely, team defense has to involve all players on the ice. We all glamorize Ovie's chase to 700 goals and beyond, and his charge to another 50-goal season. It may be coming at a significant team cost.
So our home telecast guys give Dylan the Player of the Game and continue to pump him for the Norris. Are you kidding me? Yes, he got a goal that bounced off the defender and an assist. His defensive game would have been his worst of the year, except that came in the preceding game against Philly.I wish I was surprised. After a decent start to the year in terms of stats, CSNs producers have been pushing the broadcasters to talk up Carlson at all times.
Carlson is back to his patented style of lackadaisical play where he casually skates around, avoiding any contact, and then is standing 3 or 4 feet away from the guy that scores. But hey, he's gonna win the Norris!
In the past, back to back games like this have been indicative of a team that has lost faith in its head coach
If they MUST assign one, Eller should of been player of the game, (both nights) imo..
Sure has that look don't it.. :-\ Unfortunately, unless they fall below a playoff spot or tank in the playoffs, Reirden is gonna still be here.
it's also a bit late in the season to fire the coach and have it be worthwhile
I agree completely, if the organizational goal was winning a Cup every year. But it isn’t.
I'm not so sure. You can look at it this way; if they keep Rierden, they're likely to go along as they are and exit the playoffs early. It also tells the players that management is content with the status quo. If they fire him and bring in someone else, it tells the players that management isn't satisfied, despite the overall record and that more heads could roll, including some of their's. It might also be just what they need to right the ship and go on a deep playoff run. It's really a no lose situation unless someone thinks that Rierden can figure it out, which I find doubtful.
As for candidates, as I mentioned earlier in here, I like Alan May for a number of reasons. First off, if you listen to him on the broadcasts, he quickly gets to the heart of what they are doing wrong and it reflects many of the things we all say in here. Secondly, he'll come pretty cheap (which mgt should like) because he's not in demand or on anyone's radar. Third, he's a member of the Cap family, so to speak, and knows how things are run around here. Lastly, he's an old school guy who will demand more attention to detail and chew on some asses if necessary, something Rierden appears incapable of. He's also a former player which can go a long way with other pros.
I missed the part where Dylan got player of the game, I'd sure like to know what the crew was smoking when they decided on that. I would've given it to Holtby myself, he was pretty good for the 30:00 he played. All they looked at was stats. Sure Carlson had 2 points in the game but the rest of his game sucked. He made a ton of bone head plays.
