I am a little surprised at the Alexeyev signing.  He got league minimum on a 1 year deal.  Signed July 2nd, so....is this the best offer he was gonna get?  Seems a little early to take that deal -  I mean league minimum 1 year is the lowest possible contract a player can get.  Who's his agent - deputy dog?  Nobody wanted this guy?

If he can still contribute at a good level, which likely means stop double shifting him on the PP, I’m ok with another year or two. At a good price for the team.

"he's certainly expected to compete for games and ice time" I hope this is true. I feel like lineups should be fluid, with as many games as they play. When Fever went down last year, we were stuck in the mud cause AA had zero prep time and was thrown right into the playoff fire. Be nice if they'd get everyone on the roster some ice.

Then there's this!
8-0 Not sure how I feel about another Ovi contract, but if he still wants to play, it has to be in DC!

That would be a real predicament because there is no way that Ovi would play for less than $9 or $10M.  He would view it as an insult and the Caps would really be forced to pay whatever he wants.  Let's hope he has a decent year and then retires.  I still think last year was the strangest season for him. I thought he didn't play well at all - could hardly skate a lot of games, broke his leg, seemed to be missing the puck a lot - and yet he still scored 40.  I just don't want him to embarrass himself.  My prediction is that he gets 20 goals.

I’d be open to a one or two year extension deal, at about $5M at the most. But, he’s probably thinking completely retiring where the reporter is talking about the NHL.

A new CBA has been agreed to. No lockout is nice, I’m sure something in the CBA will counter that.

I just saw where Kuzy is considering NHL offers....including from Montreal.
