Top story lines
Game 7: No NHL team has played in more Game 7s over the past decade than Washington. Ovechkin acknowledged this might be the biggest game of his life, and he seemed to be looking forward to it.
“I think both teams have experience to play those games,” Ovechkin said. “It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be interesting, it’s going to be fun. You know, you play hockey because of these moments. One game. That’s it. Everything on the line.”
Lightning Coach Jon Cooper walked into his pregame news conference and muttered, “Wow.”
“Is something going on tonight?” he cracked.
The Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004, and Tampa Bay went to the final three years ago. But much like Ovechkin and center Nicklas Backstrom, the current core of players is still chasing a championship.
“Been to a conference final in three of the last four years,” defenseman Victor Hedman said. “We’ve been close, but haven’t reached our ultimate goal yet. For me and [Steven Stamkos], we’ve almost been here for almost a decade now. We want to win with this organization. We want to bring a Stanley Cup back to Tampa.”
• Physical play: The Capitals outhit the Lightning, 39-19, in Monday’s Game 6, and Washington did so while still controlling possession for most of the game. The Capitals called their bruising play throughout the series “an investment,” hopeful that Tampa Bay players will be worn down by the time Game 7 begins.
“It’s the way we’ve got to play,” center Jay Beagle said emphatically. “I think when we play our best is when we’re physical and we’re dictating the game with how physical we can play. I think that’s obviously a key. You saw it [Monday] night. We have to do it again in Game 7.”
Said defenseman Brooks Orpik: “That’s probably one area where we have an edge is the size and physical play, and over the course of a seven-game series it’s something we talked about. Just when we get opportunities, don’t run out of position, but try to wear them down when you can.”
• Special teams: The Capitals have been smart to stay out of the penalty box the past two games, but when they’ve been tested shorthanded, they’ve impressed. The Lightning’s power play started the series 6-for-13, but the Capitals have killed three straight penalties over the past two games. In Game 6, Tampa Bay managed just one shot on goal with its man-advantage, and Washington matched that while on the penalty kill. So far in this series, the team that’s won the special teams battle has won the game.
“In special teams especially, it’s a cat and mouse every game,” Holtby said. “We’ve got a plan tonight that we’re going to have to execute and adjust if they’ve made adjustments.”
• Road success: Washington has seemed relaxed on the road this postseason, with a 7-2 record away from Capital One Arena. The Capitals have started a superstition, in which one member of the team takes a solo lap before the morning skate, and since Washington lost its last game in Tampa Bay, Ovechkin had to tab someone new to take the lap on Wednesday. In a surprise, he chose Coach Barry Trotz.
“I looked at it this way, real simply: they called my number,” Trotz said. “At this time of year, you’re all in. And so, I was ready. I was surprised. And I was a little bit worried about the turns because the rudders haven’t been sharpened all year. You didn’t see a lot of crossovers there. I used body mass and weight to dig in there. And it was a little bit of a slow lap. You’re all in this time of year. They call your number, you got to step up to the plate. You got to do it. So I appreciated it. They had a good chuckle.
“Obviously we’re pretty loose.”
Players to watch
Braden Holtby: The Capitals have gone as Holtby has during this entire playoff run. In his first 12 postseason starts, the Capitals were 10-2 and Holtby had a .928 save percentage and 2.04 goals against average. In their next three games — losses in Games 3, 4 and 5 to fall behind, 3-2, to the Lightning — Holtby allowed 3.49 goals a contest and posted an .844 save percentage. Then the 28-year-old goaltender pitched his first shutout of the season in the Capitals’ 3-0 season-extending win Monday. How he fares in net Wednesday, especially with standout goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy between the pipes across the ice, will have a major bearing on whether the Capitals move on to the Stanley Cup finals.
“That was last game,” Trotz of Holtby’s Game 6 shutout. “It’s a new game. There’s no … to me nothing really carries over.”
Andrei Vasilevskiy: After giving up 10 goals (and a stunningly low 84 percent save percentage) in the first two games of the series, the young Russian goaltender took plenty of heat. He’s responded with memorable moments in each of the last four games. He had a series-high 38 saves in Game 3. He single-handedly stole Game 4 with the best postseason performance of his career. He made several crucial stops in the final minutes to stave off a Washington comeback in Game 5, and he was a lone bright spot in a shutout loss in Game 6. Whatever the 23-year-old has in store for Game 7, Tampa Bay is focused on giving him support after its worst showing of the series.
“We know we have to be better, there’s no doubt about that. We watched the tape, went over the game plan,” Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos said of Game 6. “There’s not a lot to be said when you get into a scenario like this. We’ll elevate our game, no doubt about that.”

It's a game 7. They better not be calling imaginary shit and missing critical penalties that lead to goals against like they did in game 5.

Looks like a Nats loss. Seasons over.

Hey everyone, how them nerves going?
Apart of me wants to be proud of whatever happens. I think the team has showed some serious heart and evolution these playoffs. Yes, I know I know, Cup or bust. Absolutely. But if it is bust, at least some growing pains were handled, some evolution happened, and the narrative shifted even if slightly. I said it before but experience is so important for going on deep playoff runs most of the time. The west had a wild year for some first timers but look at Tampa they've been in these spots tons. Pitt was the same previous, and so were a lot of Cup winners.
It sucks that we finally get a deeper playoff run so late into Ovie and Nicky's careers, but at this point as a fan I'd of taken anything from this season.
Now all that said. I don't want to be too optimistic about tonights chances because with how things go for us, you never know. But despite my nerves, I have more confidence in this group that I ever have. So there is that. I believe there is absolutely a way where the Caps get into that arena and walk away with a W and a first cup final with Ovechkin. Just about the execution.
I feel like regardless of what happens tonight for me, the narrative of this season and especially this playoffs is growth in surprising places. I feel far more confident in our forward and defensive depth than I used to, and it's because of players like Wilson, Stephenson, Vrana, Kempny and Oshie. The first three are all draft picks for us and seeing the evolution of their games, Wilson settling into not just a great agitator and physical presence but a scoring threat, and an asset on the forecheck. Stephenson has become a hustle machine, he's like if Brooks Laich could of actually skated fast and not just had hustle. He works, he's an excellent PK guy and he is comfortable playing any forward position to boot. With faceoff skills as a former natural center. Vrana has impressed me these playoffs, he's been fast yes, but he's now finally learning to utilize his speed to hit. Yes hit. He forechecked a bunch these playoffs, and his defensive stick has been more active. He may not be a defensive wizard, but he's committed, he cares. Kempny is just a surprise for me, we needed another Top 4 D who simply could be steady, not look out of place out there. I have no idea how Chicago let him go, maybe it was just a placement thing, he needed the right roster and role to excel. But he's looked very steady next to Carlson in big hard games and seems none the worse wear and tear wise. One of BMGM's few surprise "hits" in regards to trading honestly. Lastly Oshie, if we ever lose Ovechkin it's either Oshie or Beagle that gets the C imo. I don't know if people remember this but Oshie was injured heading into the playoffs and hasn't been playing 100% all playoffs health wise. Yet he's still out there making a difference in every facet of the ice. Forecheck, PP, PK, cycle, backcheck, netural clog, net presence. I mean he out works more than one defender on the ice while injured.
A lot of those names are players who are younger, and signed to us for a decent length of time. So my reason for optimism is that those are names that have shown growth in the crucial playoff games and they certainly make our future seem far less bleak than I had originally thought heading into the season.
Anyway, rant over, let's go Caps crazy Game 7 I can't wait but also don't know if I can take it.

Lol! Did a recap of the interviews and stuff on the Caps site and in one of Ovi's interviews a reporter asked if he remembered his first Game 7. Ovi replied, "Yes. The refs". He also made a snide comment that things hadn't changed much since.......... 8)

LETS GO CAPS !!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Honestly, I am pretty calm and confident. I know that we're the better team when we show up. How can you not show up for a game 7? Knock on wood!

I tried to play some poker, to divert my attention for a little bit and while I cashed in the first game, it went pretty downhill, pretty fast from there........... :poop: So I've given up and given in.
I now have full Caps regalia going on. Grey Winter Classic t-shirt ('cos it's an away game), my FABULOUS Caps onesie, my Caps hoodie, in case it get's a little chilly - which I doubt and my Caps cap. If I could remember where I put my Weagle earrings, I would have them on too.

Thanks for that!

I think, if we come out in the first 5 - 10 minutes and play like we did the last game, then we will have this. They will have their heads on a swivel and we can pick and choose our hits from there, just to keep them on their toes.
A lot will depend on staying out of the box also, but seeing who the refs are this game.... meh....

Critical issue -- everybody get on board with rooting hard for the Nats against the Padres this afternoon. It seems that Caps only win when the Nats win.
G1: Nats Beat Arizona -- Caps win
G2: Nats Beat Arizona -- Caps win
G3: Nats Rain out -- Caps lose
G4: Nats Rain out -- Caps lose
G5: Nats Lose -- Caps lose
G6: Nats Beat San Diego -- Caps win
Very important that the Nats win today!
we are scrod

Yeah, how on earth they go from underachieving failures, to overachieving with 3-4 near/perfect games to get them to a game 7 in a third round after not making out of the second with superior rosters can only be explained as an anomaly. . .
Well, put up or shut up time

:70:
-
Good lord Holts . . .
-
ahem, Orpik leads the team postseason with a +14, everyone else is under 10
-
Why does our passing look so much better on Tampa's ice?
-
Man, I hope DSP is OK. That looked bad! OUCH!!!
-
Put a Caps sweater on that and that's me tonight!
I don't know how you guys get those funny videos on this forum, but they make me laugh!
-
Why does our passing look so much better on Tampa's ice?
I've heard some complaints about our home ice at times.
-
DSP will be fine. . .
-
OUCH! What an awful way to block a puck. That is SOoooo bad. I would be surprised if Smelly comes back after that. Best wishes for him, but that just looked awful.
-
In our zone a bit too much, it seems....
-
BS icing call. Oshie was there first.
-
There doesn't seem to be any where near as much physical play/hitting so far. At least not as much as I had hoped. Maybe our guys are still a little sore from the last game?
-
How did that NOT go in?
-
Thst just shows why Willie is better than Kuzy.
I don’t care what stats you have, a man takes your shirt off, YOU FUCK HIM UP! No excuses
-
I've heard some complaints about our home ice at times.
it must be HVAC related, this is the first time they've ever park auxiliary A/C units outside of the arena.

Man up! Impose your will now!

Jesus Holts is gonna need to be perfect tonight . . .
He looks calm, which is good. But he's got to control the rebounds a little better
-
Glad to see DSP back on the ice.

This is what playoff games are all about, this team is giving everything in the line.... damn
Really impressed.... WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING LIKE THAT. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
-
:phew:
-
NOT QUITE YET !!!!! 2 more to go
:phew:
-
Better to be lucky than good. Liked the block shots and Willie standing tall, but the intensity needs to be dialed up.....can’t turtle up this early
-
Should be 2-0. Between the Vrana post and Ovie on the doorstep. Need to cash those chances.
-
Decent 1st period. Nothing to write home about though. Seem they are more physical than we are at the moment.
-
Willy needs to stay a little frosty for a bit now. You can almost see in the refs eyes that they're looking for an excuse to boot him from the game. Maybe a couple of other guys need to fill in for little while. ..... Just far a bit, you understand. ;) Great job by him, by the way.
Loving the steely look in Ovi's eyes. 8)
-
He has a battle to win...... just incredible....

Well. . . I should of said “tries” to, but that was after the fact 🤣

We have to get more physical. Need Orpik or Orlov to put somebody down at the blue line. If Trotz has one ounce of coaching skill left he is going to ramp it up!!!!
-
Vrana May have been our best forward.
-
NEXT ROUND , DING DING DING !
-
Willy needs a goal for the Gordie Howe
-
Holts is nice tonight....!!

WAY too much time in our zone....

Defensively we're not the best ..... ouff we need to be better... too many point blanks shots on Holts

He looks calm, which is good. But he's got to control the rebounds a little better
Vaseleski got some puck luck in game 6. We are due for some.
-
Game misconduct it should be, but fuck the refs!!!!
BOARDING!!!
-
NO NO NO NO NO NO! Get up Orpks!
-
we are playing the team that put that kid in shitsburgh with the soft melon out of the game for a year
-
NBC is pathetic, these asshats would've been crying bloody murder if Willy made that hit
-
That's about as classic a boarding as you can get. 5 minute major and game misconduct minimum IMO.
-
Nothing to see there ref? :poop:
-
That is textbook boarding. There better be a penalty when the feed comes back.
-
Horseshit!!!!

classic jackass zebras refing to the scoreboard

The wheel of Justice says hockey play (unless your name is Wilson).

:clown: :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown:
Well, at least we can blame the refs again. Again. Again.
What a joke!
Man, I knew they were going to pull some sort of shit, as soon as I saw who the refs were, but this is beyond the pale imho!
-
NBC is pathetic, these asshats would've been crying bloody murder if Willy made that hit
Very good point...

I bloody well hope so after the last shenannigans! Hopefully he takes out at least one of the refs! >:(
We got a good 200 points last game, btw. :P
-
wow.....emotional big time....
I can't believe it....
-
Multiple blues fans are cheering for ovi/caps. We can relate to your anguish.
Blues as a franchise have NEVER won more than 2 games in the 3rd round of the NHL playoffs.
-
the new dog can't handle the yelling at the tv
LOL ;D
-
I officially feel guilty about bashing #65... Tonight he seems to be avoiding the negative (spinning around, fancy passing) and doing the good things well (skating fast and purely shooting).
-
Unreal that we have to play every game against the other team and the FUCKING zebras. How on god's green earth is that NOT boarding. At least 2, should have been 5 and a misconduct, but nothing? WTF?
-
I officially feel guilty about bashing #65... Tonight he seems to be avoiding the negative (spinning around, fancy passing) and doing the good things well (skating fast and purely shooting).
Hey, he deserved it at the time. Maybe he's finally learned something?
...
......
-
That was an awful change by Tampa on the Burt goal. These injuries are going to add if we win this though, man. I hope it's not as worse as it seems for DSP and Orpik, both have been crucial in this playoff run.
As for the score and the game, I'm still on the edge of my seat up by 3. We'll see if we can hold it for 20. Come on Caps. 20 more minutes, come on!
-
I officially feel guilty about bashing #65... Tonight he seems to be avoiding the negative (spinning around, fancy passing) and doing the good things well (skating fast and purely shooting).
He was really bad.
-
Any news on Orpik?
-
Don't worry. After we eliminate them he'll be suspended by the league. What bullshit. If Willy did that he'd get 3 games.
-
Has anybody got a replay on the boarding on Orpik?
-
Draper with the Warriors . . . maybe the best spot ever
-
the new dog can't handle the yelling at the tv
I FEEL YOU lol
-
Hey, he deserved it at the time. Maybe he's finally learned something?
...
......
Careful. We have seen this from Bura before and he always goes back to this old ways.
-
Unreal that we have to play every game against the other team and the FUCKING zebras. How on god's green earth is that NOT boarding. At least 2, should have been 5 and a misconduct, but nothing? WTF?
I said it years ago that we have to beat the opponent, the refs, and the NHL and their BS suspensions if we're ever to win a cup.
-
And, oh by the way, after Burka scored the second goal, about 3-4 seconds after the puck entered the net he got cleaned out on a cheap shot that should have been called. Fucking awful refereeing.
-
Has anybody got a replay on the boarding on Orpik?
No, but honestly it looked bad, but not BAD.. He definitely hit him in the back, but he didn't crunch into the glass or anything. Least not from the angle I saw.. Most certainly a penalty, but hopefully not a long injury.. (just me speculating of course.) Half drunk at that.. "He's fine! Rub some dirt on it!"
-
I actually don’t think it was that bad. I don’t think Orpik’s head hit the glass. I know this would be shocking but maybe Orpik sold it a bit. Still, it should have been a boarding penalty.
-
Our guys need to stay, what is you guys say, "frosty"? 8)
Keep the cool, keep hitting them, let them get all hot and bothered and be and du stupid.
-
maybe Orpik sold it a bit.
Not in his nature. He's a guy that thrives on outwilling the opponent because he can't outskill them. He NEVER would lie on the ice and show weakness.
-

lol, right, reach down to that ice and grab some dirt
-
We need to play smart. Pucks out of zone and into their zone and take advantage of one or two of the odd-man rushes that will come from their pressing. We will get several 2 v 1 and 3 v 2 this period and we need to cash and not be cute. Oshie's spin-o-rama in the 2nd was a true WTF moment.
-
Careful. We have seen this from Bura before and he always goes back to this old ways.
In my defence, that was meant a little tongue in cheek. ;)
-
And, oh by the way, after Burka scored the second goal, about 3-4 seconds after the puck entered the net he got cleaned out on a cheap shot that should have been called. Fucking awful refereeing.
I totally saw that and agree. A cheap shot it was. Refs are damned awful yet again.
-
Not in his nature. He's a guy that thrives on outwilling the opponent because he can't outskill them. He NEVER would lie on the ice and show weakness.
You do remember the Thornton incident right? And that he missed large parts of seasons for vacati, er I mean “injuries”?
He’s toughned up a bit, but not that much
-
In my defence, that was meant a little tongue in cheek. ;)
Tongue in cheek or not, it was accurate.
-
I totally saw that and agree. A cheap shot it was. Refs are damned awful yet again.
That's because they're damned awful refs.
Jus' sayin'
-
these last two games are almost like the Caps found their playoff gear, I don't believe I've actually seen it in the OV era
-
I really want Bear to score again.
The cynical part of me is just adding up the $$$ we can get for him the more goals he scores. ;)
-
DUmb FUUUUUUUCK 2
-
Hmmm....was this a predictable penalty?
-
>:( POwer play... we can control this ... come on guys
-
Hmmm....was this a predictable penalty?
it was a quick cheap replay, so hard to tell

Tampa is scared wow...... they cant handle their sticks ... cant handle passes.

By far the 2 best goalies in Caps history.
that's easy to say when it's the only two Caps goalies to make it to the final round
-
Holtby in the CBC post game "Matt Niskanen probably saved like 5 goals tonight." Yeah Maaco, it's Carlson that has been our best defender, I'm sure our goalie would call out Nisky like that just cuz right? :P I'm mostly teasing you, but I do think it's noteable that is the name he goes too. I've always had goaltender like vision though, so maybe I just see the puck better than you do?
Awesome stuff from our club tonight. Tampa pushed harder this game, especially in the first and second and while we did get some bounces, the 0 on the scoreboard was due to both Holtby and the team defense. Holts gave up some JUICY rebounds that our entire D core was exceptionally fast on. I don't know if Tampa had a single second chance opportunity. In the third it took them 11 minutes to get a shot, including through a PP. Was clutch team defense right when we needed it. We are playing for a Stanley Cup, against freaking GMGM, of course it goes this way.
-
Bringing out the Blue Label.....cheers!
-
WE WON !!!
Lol! Yeah, in spite of you trying to jinx us! Ha ha!
Go back to the very first page of this thread and read my first post. 8)

I knew the hockey gods were with us tonight when Tampa missed the gaping net.
I said that to my son when that happened. Great game. Great team. We've got the goods to take it to Vegas too.
-
So don't care about the 'bad puck luck' for the Lightning...their missed chances...the crazy bounces that worked against them...blah blah blah.
I love that we won this game with even strength, instead of power play, goals, too. How sweet was the shut out, again, too?
And really happy for the fans who are owning the steps of the National Portrait Gallery tonight! Bet that watch party at the arena was great.

Barry, Barry, Barry ......you're going to Bury your career with Burky. Hell, I'd rather see Gerisch over 65 at this point. Certainly would rather see Chiasson.
Can't decide whether the Caps totally shit the bed and don't show up tonight, or take us on another "we believe" tour by winning tonight and forcing a game 7 in Tampa, which they lose in triple OT. [Trying some KitFisto negativity. His wasn't enough alone last time to get the win, maybe he needs a little extra support in his lack of support for the Caps.]

Nisky had a good game. The CBC commentators diud say that this series would have been over by now if Orlov and Niskanen weren't so awful in game 5.
BTW I watched that exact same interview and Holtby said Niskanen probably saved 4 goals. He didnt say 5.
We haven't given up a goal in 2 plus games. I think its safe to say they all played well.
-
What a game, it is too good to be true. Really proud of the Caps and the way they played. Holtby with the shutout, Burky with two big goals and Ovie with the first goal. Our blue line was tremendous. If we play against Vegas like we played tonight we will win.
-
I wish I was in a pub celebrating with you all. Know that I'm with you in spirit. Or at least grape... I didn't buy any pop, in case I jinxed us, so I'll get a bottle tomorrow to celebrate.
I would love for you all to have a "White Russian", on my behalf. 8) Post pictures!
OMG OMG OMG ...........
We're actually fighting for THE CUP. (swoon)
At the beginning of this year I didn't even think we'd make it to post season.
-
Like Alan May is just saying, I've been very relaxed myself about this team's chances. I did not have more than a slight tinge of doubt in this game and usually I would be going nuts from days before until the final horn. I feel that way going into next week too. We can really do this.
-
What an incredible two performances in games 6 and 7. Hard to believe they played such shut down D. I'm so happy right now.
-
I need tickets... god damn...
My hotel is already booked...
-
I said that to my son when that happened. Great game. Great team. We've got the goods to take it to Vegas too.
I didn’t dare say anything until the game was over. But I knew army that point we would win.

Couldn’t be happier to proven so utterly and completely wrong!!!
But if your remember - t'wasn't so long ago, it was Ovi with the GWG :P
The additional revenue will be usefull though...

PM me if anyone has a line on a single for any game in DC.

there is a village in Africa that is getting its eastern conference campions tshirts this weekend
-
Did that just happen? Did we just beat the Bolts with two elimination game shutouts to with the conference title?
:b: :capslogo: :b:
Are we going to be the team that stops Vegas?
-
I think it should be noted, it doesn't appear anyone here has doubted Bura's skill. The issue we've all had the past 3-4 years is there has been very little consistency in his game and he has needed far to many benchings to get his head right. If that's all finally in the past that's great, but we need to see more of his play to find out

What and from such a shit team? :raspberry:

Backys hand is still hurt, he's shaking with his left hand
Don't know about that. I would be afraid of a cheap shot.

Did you see Niskannen's interview before tonight's game? If you didn't, may I suggest you watch it? He is so softly spoken and even more shy than Nicky, if that was possible, but he spoke for over 7 minutes. Watch it. Please. :hearts:

"army that point" ?
Americanism for auto correct is missing with me.

This is unbelievable we are in Final!
Still can’t believe it,but I’m especially happy for Ovi ;)
-
it would've been nice to see Willy get the Gordie Howe, the only disappointment tonight
-
My wife said to me late in the 3rd period, "Don't you feel sorry for the other team?"
My answer was, "Muahahahahahahahaha!!!! NO!!!! Not one bit!"

Nisky does good interviews. He thinks before he speaks. He doesn't whine. He is pretty hard on himself.
-
Goodnight all! Watching taped delay of Caps Extra, Caps Overtime, Caps Over Overtime, etc., etc. Looking forward to sports talk radio all day tomorrow, as the day-after-the-Game-7-loss is usually not a happy one. Tomorrow will be.
Cancel your Memorial Day Monday plans to watch the game and will see everyone then!

I'm still in shock!
My first post in this GDT was that Ovi would get the GWG. I KNEW we would win this game but I just couldn't say it. Jinx and all that, but i knew. I just knew. It doesnT make it less emotional. :'( I think I cried for about 5 minutes afterwards. Ha ha!

Yet you still hate him. :-\
-
We're playing for the CUP peeps! We're playing for the prize. Who'd have thunk it?
-
Hey Caps Fan Humans!
I've quit posting during these playoff games, my bit of superstition and yet... superstition vindicated! :cross:
I'm so happy that our boys are finally back in the finals!
Let's Go CAPS!!!!
-
Yet you still hate him. :-\
I don't hate him. I admit I'm not his biggest fan. I'm hard on him because we pay him a lot to be a shutdown guy. He is pretty good defensively but I wish he was more consistent.
-
My wife said to me late in the 3rd period, "Don't you feel sorry for the other team?"

My wife was wearing her Wilson home jersey, screaming at him during the fight with Coburn to "HIT 'EM" - and I'm thinking, what happened to the loving mother of three girls I married? Caps fever, baby, ..... Caps fever.
-

I think his consistency this season was partly due to some recovering injuries. I feel he has been exceptionally consistent these playoffs, minus a few games. But I think a big reason he is such a strong player on the ice when he is on is this reason right here. He's clearly got the defensive hockey IQ to be a great defensive player imo, and I don't think he's going to get worse as the years go on. People forget this but it took Chara, and a lot of other notable shut down defenders way more time to blossom into their top roles. These playoffs have showed me that with Trotz as coach Nisky can be a fine shutdown D.
-
Hi all! Happy Stanley Cup Final!!!
Missed out on the thread because I was delayed watching the game due to a family emergency.
Team defense again. Taking care of the crease and Wilson stepping up. What a game!
4 more wins! 4 more wins! 4 more wins!
-
Wait, that really happened? Thought I'd gotten drunk and dreamed it.. Still four to go!!
-

I don't see at this point how ANYONE can not have great respect for ALL our D-men. They have been an awesome shutdown defense and to be fair we have seen few mistakes made. And the mistakes they make seem to serve as lessons and they don't make them repeatedly. Don't forget that we've been playing the best the league has and killing it on defense. 7-0 in the last two games of the conference final against the most potent offense in the league this season when they were in their most desperate hours. I'd say all of them are now officially shutdown guys, even the youngster Djoos. They got us to the final, passing through the Columbus, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. The last two have explosive offense and we frustrated the heck out of both of them almost every game, even the ones we lost.
It takes just one weak link in the postseason and your chances are not good. I have nothing but praise for all of them. Sure, I get upset when one of them occasionally gets beat, but realistically I don't forget we have the best of the best trying to outwit, outplay, and outthink us, coming up with new tricks each game.
It's going to be a huge thrill to watch the finals against the Cinderella team. I especially can't wait to see our guys up against Nate Schmidt. I still can't believe we let that boy go. He was so obviously a superstar in the making since we first got him and saw him on the ice. I knew it would be either him or possibly Grubauer that the Knights would snatch up. I would have left Orlov exposed as he had less chance of being snatched up and I always thought Nate was the more skilled player. Don't get me wrong. I like Orlv too. The league gave the Knights far too many choices, which has become apparent.
-
IF and I do mean IF this team wins the cup, I will have no issue with any of these players. They will be the TEAM that brought us our dream. These guys will have each earned my respect and appreciation.
-

Good one. Just hope she never turns on you!

LOL. I was just watching some kid in a video that couldn't be more than 20 years old or so losing his mind saying "we've been waiting for this for 20 years".

Yup, 4 more to go, but right now it feels good.
As good as this game was, I think the last game - game 6 - was possibly the best game I've ever seen the Caps play. 8)
I'm with you all in spirit!
Any updates on our injured guys?

They are playing very well right now. The dcore peaked at the right time. Although our defensive system includes our forwards too.
