Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan is in Russia meeting with prospect Ilya Samsonov as part of a push to get the goaltender playing in North America next season, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Washington drafted Samsonov in the first round of the 2015 NHL draft, and he’s widely considered one of the best goaltending prospects in the world. His contract with Magnitogorsk of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League expires after this season, so it makes sense that MacLellan would want to ramp up negotiations with Samsonov’s camp and get him signed to play in the Washington organization next season.
Because Samsonov, 20, is still under contract in the KHL, the Capitals cannot officially sign him until April 30, but a mutual agreement can be reached before then.

The Capitals could have an opening for Samsonov in their organizational goaltending rotation next season. Philipp Grubauer, Washington’s No. 2 netminder, will be a restricted free agent again after this season, and after two years impressing as Braden Holtby’s backup, he’s believed to be ready for more responsibility. With Holtby under contract through the 2019-20 season, the Capitals could look to trade Grubauer, either before the late February trading deadline or in the offseason.
In the American Hockey League, the Capitals have 21-year-old Vitek Vanecek and 25-year-old Pheonix Copley, who will be on a one-way deal next season, an indication the team plans to have him in Washington by that point.

It's sad how cheap tickets are going for. I can't even sell my seats for half of what I pay for them. I hope this is reflected in February when renewal prices are sent out.

I think this is a reflection more on Ted raising prices for six years in a row, because this started two years ago when Monmental made resale an absolute pain in the ass. This place has to be half empty yet again

Right! I don't see all the hype on Carlson. I still think we should let him go and give our prospects some real time and real experience. I know what the armchair GM's say but I stand my ground on this. I'd rather lose a few games and develop a D man that isn't part of the old mindset.

I finally watched it back. It was a quick slash to his arm, From the angle to the nearest fans and the speed of the slash it would have been difficult to detect. It was a very short stroke slash, but a slash nonetheless. It was a weak call to be sure.

Most here know me a bit, so you all KNOW, that despite Carlsons goal tonite, I'm having to really bite my frickin lip, with all these accolades about him, going on ELSEWHERE!!!! ITS KILLING ME, LOL!! I've been focusing on his sorry butt, and feel he has brought SOME of his play up, but it's only risen to SUB-PAR, IMO!! He is SO SOFT!! SO slow to react in real time, defensively!! Nisky has had a bump in offense, but is remaining quite bad on D, so far!! Glad that team was able to have a "bounce back" win tonite. Thought Bura had not done much, since his return, until, in the third he ACTUALLY HIT an opponent, stole puck, and passed to Kuzy who had the assist on the goal!! Buras first sign of life, since returning!!!! Anyway, good to be here folks!!
