To make you more depressed, remember we have Backy for three more years after this one at $9.2M per year and Carlson for four more at $8M.  Then there is TJ for $5.75 for three more...


The Backstrom contract may be the worst, but they will never, ever let him go.  They could trade Carlson, but I agree with you that his value is on the decline. Heck, if any GM watched the Ranger game alone, they wouldn't even sign Carlson to their AHL team at the minimum.


With zero top prospects in the system and no stockpile of draft picks, it's going to be a tough four years. The hope of Ovi making a run at the scoring title is a distraction.  He has really slowed down the last 15 games and his level of effort has plunged.  I'm not blaming him, he is just getting older and he still bangs in plenty of goals.


To really get a realistic view of our team, try watching a game of one of the top teams with all the new young talent in the league. They play at worp speed with a high level of talent.


Let's just hope we don't trade away draft picks at the deadline.
