plus, if the Panthers lose in round 1 they might be looking to replace their “interim” as well

He had a pretty good winning record over the last 3 seasons in the regular season and some success in the playoffs. They fell short this year so I guess it's "see ya"

Oh man! I would lurve to get Trotz back here. Pretty unlikely, but still.
I've not been too impressed with the Toilet and his decision making so far, but a lot of people said the same about Trotz before he coached us to The Cup, soooo. I guess it depends oon how well we do in these playoffs.

I don't want him back at this point. Not that he isn't a good coach, but doubt he ever coaches in Washington again.
Trotz was 152-102-34, and 28-21 in the playoffs over his 4 years with the Islanders, and is a two-time winner of the Jack Adams Award voted as NHL coach of the year (2016 with Capitals, 2019 with Islanders) 28-21 in the playoffs doesn't look as impressive as it actually is. The Isles got to the third round in the playoffs the previous two years, so that's pretty successful considering how difficult that is to do these days. This was Trotz's 4th year with the Isles - anyone remember how long a deal he had with them?
I think it's really hard to place any true judgement on a team or coach during the Covid seasons - there was so much nonsense going on with schedule and what not, it was really hard to take those seasons seriously.
Trotz was 205-89-34 with the Caps, but then the Caps were a team close to their prime and the Islanders were definitely a young team when Trotz started with them
