Main point of contact was the head.... direct hit to the head.... made no effort to avoid the hit....hit player in a defenseless position with head down...player injured on the play. You know....basically ALL the parameters for a bad hit. (except the hitter wasn't a #43)
This is what's wrong with DOPS - NO consistency. They need to blur the numbers and names on the video and let an impartial panel review these so there is no bias....but then there would still be team bias and everyone could still tell who is who. But really, if their job is to protect the players, then they need to set clear guidelines and actually follow them. Then every player would know what the rules are. Either that or just make is simple and make it automatic. Hit a guy in the head, penalty & suspension...no matter what. Just like clearing the puck over the glass in the D zone - automatic penalty intentional or not.
