Do people here watch other teams on a consistent basis or just the caps. I ask because if you did. You'll notice that other top dmen in the league do get beat and do have bad games themselves. Every dman will get beat a time or two a game if they are on the ice for close to half the game.

Yes we know.
Yes
A time or two yes. Today....Johnny was a drum....or at least beaten like one. Didn’t t say he was a bad player....actually I did say he was a great player.
He had a very bad game. He was only noticeable in that he was bad.  He wasn’t invisible, he was visibly bad.  Bad defensively, bad offensively, bad all around. Usually he is okay defensively, a big plus offensively and good puck mover, etc.  Maybe he was fatigued. He does play tons of minutes but he looked way off today. Out of position, behind the play, poor puck management, poor defense, no offense, no physicality at all (not shocking)
I’d say...probably the worst player on the ice

Ovi was bad defensively today too but that’s not unusual and he’s not a defenseman. He sucks at team D. He didn’t score but did have some chances. He did hit some people.

I don’t know why so many people get butt hurt when anyone states the golden boy had a bad game. He did have a bad game. Nobody said he sucks total ass. Several have said he is overpaid which I think is true. Would we feel it if he was moved?  absolutely. Would it destroy the defense of this team?  Heck no.
It would feee up 8mil of cap space, which would be spent in replacing him with alternatives, none of which would do ALL of what Johnny Q Dylan Norris does.
But all that is kind of moot since there is no way in hell the Caps even consider moving him. I’m okay with that.
Doesn’t change the fact he was smelly dead ass all over the ice today

We were pretty bad defenaively.  The Carlson Orlov pair sucked and both of our top 2 lines were pretty bad.
We were decent offensively. We had a lot of high danger chances.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy

annually awarded to the top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position"

Odd how someone here seemed to not know that Subban, Karlsson and Hedman had won it. Even Chara won it, long after the islanders dumped him.

Sorry, but as everyone has admitted, if 74 wasn't scoring goals he never would be considered for the award. Yet in the description of the award scoring would seem to not matter.

Is he good for this team? Yes. Is he a great defenseman? No. I'd be fine with him if was making $7M at the most. As it is, he's overpaid and it's hurting this team. It was hurting the team before the salary cap got frozen for at least three years, and I'd be amazed if it doesn't end up being four as its directly tied to league income.

Uh Oh.......

I think there will be some fallout from this game.  The league doesn't seem to want games to be this physical anymore, so I think there will be repercussions, warranted or not.
The Hathaway debacle is one, but also the alleged Willy incident, which was total bullshit.

A slo mo camera angle clearly showed daylight between Willy and the guy that had fallen.  Willy never touched him.
The refs were appalling... again.  Nothing new there.
How do we, as fans, combat this?
