mr norris was a -5
Once again it's all about 74. Was he the only guy that had a bad game?
The last minus was on the empty net goal. I think Ovie and Kuzy were minus 4.

And as usual, the winning goalie made a couple 10 bell/robbery type saves and ours didn't. Not V's fault, but again, gotta steal one every now and then to keep your team in it..

Rask was very good today, but then he's had a little more time.
If you remember, Holtby was not so great his first year or so with us.  It as only when we got the "Goalie Whisperer" on board that he started to blossom.  These two yunguns may take a little longer.

No surprise either about the refs or the comms.
The Bruins are far dirtier than they used to be  They always used to play hard, but never got dirty untill the Rat joined them.  Not that I'm blaming it all on him.
Still.....
That last Halfway hit = The guy turned his back right at the last second.  Dangerous and stupid thing to do.  The plan worked though, huh!

the league has told these guys a couple times to not turn their backs at the last minute all the time

Ovie Kuzy are two of our worst defensive forwards
John Carlson is supposed to be our Norris trophy candidate which is “supposed to be” for the best defensive player in the league
So a -5 for a great defensive player is notable
He was not the only bad Caps player today but he had probably a worse game than anyone
We rag on him because although a good and important player for the Caps and also much improved defensively over say 3-4 years ago...
He is still not a great defensive player. He is a great player who happens to be a defenseman

Yeah.  It will be interesting as to whether they will take that into account when they review it.  I kind of already know what the    :bs: result will be..

It isn't working. Players have no awareness of their surroundings and they put themselves in vulnerable positions all the time. Whether it's turning your back towards an on coming head or skating through the middle of the ice with their head down. Players have to start taking some responsibility for their own safety.

post game, tarik asked Willy about the Kuraly "hit",
Willy: are you serious? it was a nothing play, he's fine

I've never been impressed with Tarik as a sports reporter

What are you going to do if 74 ever gets moved? You will have no one to complain about.
You didn't complain when he got 4 assists yesterday. I don't think you gave him any credit either.

if 74 gets moved you will have to find something else to attempt to argue about

That whole incident was a joke. There was no hit. Kuraly was falling before Wilson even got there. It was literally a nothing play but the Bruins made something out of it which was why they got the penalty.

Not really. I could care less. I just happen to notice that you criticize 74 at every opportunity you. You don't criticize anyone else near as much.
I sense he isn't your favorite player. In fact  I would guess that he is your least favorite player on the Caps roster. I guess everyone has to have a least favorite player on their team.
Mine was Vrana but now he is gone. I guess I was hard on Vrana when he was here.

Norris trophy is for the best Defenceman not the best defensive player.
Do people here watch other teams on a consistent basis or just the caps. I ask because if you did. You'll notice that other top dmen in the league do get beat and do have bad games themselves. Every dman will get beat a time or two a game if they are on the ice for close to half the game.

Yes we know.
Yes
A time or two yes. Today....Johnny was a drum....or at least beaten like one. Didn’t t say he was a bad player....actually I did say he was a great player.
He had a very bad game. He was only noticeable in that he was bad.  He wasn’t invisible, he was visibly bad.  Bad defensively, bad offensively, bad all around. Usually he is okay defensively, a big plus offensively and good puck mover, etc.  Maybe he was fatigued. He does play tons of minutes but he looked way off today. Out of position, behind the play, poor puck management, poor defense, no offense, no physicality at all (not shocking)
I’d say...probably the worst player on the ice

Ovi was bad defensively today too but that’s not unusual and he’s not a defenseman. He sucks at team D. He didn’t score but did have some chances. He did hit some people.

I don’t know why so many people get butt hurt when anyone states the golden boy had a bad game. He did have a bad game. Nobody said he sucks total ass. Several have said he is overpaid which I think is true. Would we feel it if he was moved?  absolutely. Would it destroy the defense of this team?  Heck no.
It would feee up 8mil of cap space, which would be spent in replacing him with alternatives, none of which would do ALL of what Johnny Q Dylan Norris does.
But all that is kind of moot since there is no way in hell the Caps even consider moving him. I’m okay with that.
Doesn’t change the fact he was smelly dead ass all over the ice today

We were pretty bad defenaively.  The Carlson Orlov pair sucked and both of our top 2 lines were pretty bad.
We were decent offensively. We had a lot of high danger chances.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy

annually awarded to the top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position"

Odd how someone here seemed to not know that Subban, Karlsson and Hedman had won it. Even Chara won it, long after the islanders dumped him.

Sorry, but as everyone has admitted, if 74 wasn't scoring goals he never would be considered for the award. Yet in the description of the award scoring would seem to not matter.

Is he good for this team? Yes. Is he a great defenseman? No. I'd be fine with him if was making $7M at the most. As it is, he's overpaid and it's hurting this team. It was hurting the team before the salary cap got frozen for at least three years, and I'd be amazed if it doesn't end up being four as its directly tied to league income.

I think there will be some fallout from this game.  The league doesn't seem to want games to be this physical anymore, so I think there will be repercussions, warranted or not.
The Hathaway debacle is one, but also the alleged Willy incident, which was total bullshit.

A slo mo camera angle clearly showed daylight between Willy and the guy that had fallen.  Willy never touched him.
The refs were appalling... again.  Nothing new there.
How do we, as fans, combat this?
