Absolutely right. This fan base has been suckered into thinking that regular season wins mean we are capable of winning a Cup. We keep losing in the playoffs because none of our key guys have the leadership or the extra gear it takes to win it. The sooner we turn over this team and start accumulating assets the sooner we have a chance at a Cup.

Hey speak for yourself
But yes, this is all on the ownership and Caps management.
Since Ovie got here it’s been “just make the playoffs as we have ‘a chance’”. Which has turned into “entertain for 82 games and put the proverbial carrot on the stick for the playoffs because playoff style teams wont sell as much for the other 82 “ then just charge as 4x for two rounds of playoff tickets so they don’t get that much of a hit.
What really pisses me off is they continue the “we know hockey, you don’t” line, which year after year gets proved wrong

Ottawa flips Cole to get a player and pick. . .
Another example of being a good GM.

AJ Jakubec: Sources saying that the Washington Capitals are making a push for defenseman Erik Karlsson. They would likely have to move pending UFA defenseman John Carlson to get a deal done.
Obviously, this is a pretty crazy push here but if we find a way to make a deal to upgrade to the better Karlsson I'll be absolutely happy. I'm not saying that to bash the Carlson fans here, as some have said you can make the argument he's been one of our best D men. My issue with our Carlson has always been his ability to crumble under pressure. Erik Karlsson is CLEARLY the more superior player. And any deal like this would likely involve us giving up some of our younger players (Vrana, Burt, Bowey etc.) and rumor has it Ottawa wants to package Bobby Ryan up with Karlsson.
If we make a deal like this, for two playoff hungry notable veterans and actually make the signal to go for it, even if it doesn't solve all our grit issues, I'd at least applaud the GM and team for finally trying to set a direction and truly going for it. It would give us a legitimate number one D finally. And who knows potentially more.
But I'm also still not holding my breath. Rumors are just that, if GMBM wants to lay his cards out and make the push Ovechkin and this core deserves than we have to pay the price to get the players that we need to solve our problems. There is a market out there, for another D, for grit, Joel Ward is back on the market. And it's not the old NHL. 3-way deals, and teams keeping Cap. If you are willing to give these rebuilding teams young players going forward then they will find ways to make things work. Ottawa is the perfect example of that as they have been going full rebuild here. It's almost like it's smart to pick a direction with your team, and stick to it, not all this wishy washy shit we do. So the ball is in your court today GMBM, we are watching, impress us.

Thinking about it from a salary cap position too for those interested, while Erik Karlsson does have a 6.5 cap hit this season, he's also signed into next. "Dylan" as Lil likes to call him currently has a cap hit of 3.9, but as we know he's a upcoming UFA and he'll be making no less than 7 mill from UFA in my earnest opinion. We'd still obviously have to give up more off our books to make a deal work for this season, but upgrading to the better Karlsson would still technically save us money next season pending on if we resigned John Carlson imo.
That said, Erik probably demands no less than 8 maybe even 9+ after that. Especially if the salary cap goes up. It's a big reason why he's rumored to even be in trade talks, Ottawa isn't a team that likes to spend to the Cap as they have a more money tight owner. Combine that with them going into rebuild and it just doesn't make sense to throw 9-10 mill at a big name player like that.

Well, it was set up to be a 3-way deal is what they're saying. But wow, has the trades slowed down after Stasny getting shipped to Edmonton got announced.
