Anyone still wanna defend Holtby with the whole "he just had an off game" or "the guys in front of him played like shit and didn't give Holts a chance" bull crap?
Holeby sucks now. Period. Sooner we face facts and give Sammy more starts, the sooner we can get back on track.
Mickstix:
Too bad some reporter doesn't just ask Reirden what his thought process is on the goalie situation.. I mean, Holtby LOST the job, imo.. He played like shit for over a month, Sammy was hot, came in and pitched a shutout, then got the next start and iirc got a 1 GA win.. Then Holtby got the start before the break and got yanked after 2 periods.. Then played the ASG and STILL got the start coming off the break? Sammy hadn't played but 20 minutes in a week.. Sammy should of had the start on Monday.. But, Holtby starts that game off with a softy and rebounds for the win, then gets another shellacking last night.. WTF? Just give the reins to Samsonov until he proves he needs a rest FFS.. I can already see it, Sammy gets the start Friday and Holeby gets lit up on Sunday. Rinse/Repeat.
4 Caps:
The only way the Caps will win the Stanley Cup this year is if Holtby regains the form he displayed in the 2018 playoffs. I don’t think it is realistic to expect a rookie goaltender with as little NHL experience as Samsonov has to take us far in the playoffs. I don’t know what the problem is with Holtby but he has to figure it out soon and that means you have to play him. He is not going to find his form by sitting on the bench. If the Caps were in danger of missing the playoffs then maybe we would have to play Samsonov but we have a big enough lead in the playoff race that we can give Holtby time to figure it out.
ArJunaZ:
I don't believe that the standard approach to bringing up a new goalie carefully is necessarily the right choice in all cases. I think for the time being Sammy should get at least half the starts and Holeby needs to find his game in that structure.
Sammy just looks so much calmer in net than Holtby. Sammy looks like Holtby used to in net, maybe even calmer. Holts is 30-years old and reflexes unfortunately begin to slow down by that age.
