Hey LIL!!👍

How have you been?  Good to hear from you, as we havenít talked in a while with each other!
Glad to see youíre still doing good justice to representing CAPS hockey, as possibly our sole, board ambassador in Surrey! Hell, maybe even all of the UK!
(Oh yeah, FYI, I had to get a new iPhone recently, and when deciding what data to transfer over, I saw that short little Alan May clip, from quite awhile ago!  So if you ever lose it,  iíll always have a copy on iCloud)!   Not bad for a non-techie, huh??😁😁

Anyway, I feel good to hear that youíve turned the corner from the old ďDylanĒ mentality, and progressed on to liking and appreciating his play.
Who can fault you? The guy totally deserves it, and believe it or not, I actually appreciate him too!

I realize that the majority of my posts on the matter, this season, can be confusing! I have tried hard, with some questionable success, to try and SPECIFY, just exactly where I am, with this subject.

Honestly, sometimes my trying to be as CLEAR as I can, ( and Iím no genius, but you know I can be quite descriptive! Oftentimes too descriptive, RIGHT!!!)😆, can come off as too intense!  I know this because my life circle of friends, mentions this aspect from time to time! LOL

Itís been both a positive, and a curse sometimes, for me personally, depending on the situation.  My customers, with their heating and air-conditioning equipment, REALLY appreciate it, but other times, especially in social situations, I must come off like a thorn in someoneís ear!
Guilty on both, I say.

Quickly, and sparing you any more of my crazy self analysis,  I try to nutshell my feelings on John Carlson for you.

The part I donít like about him, looms HUGE, to me personally, but is quite micro in the overall John Carlson/Caps defenseman existence in reality!  So that when I talk about his negatives, here on the board,  I have pulled a small piece of the puzzle,  put it under my intense microscope,  and then rant away,  from a personal peeve place in my brain!

When I talk on his positives,  it is a zoom out, macro look, at the obvious reality, I exist in, with all the other Caps fans,  that admires his incredible contributions to our Capitals team!  My brain definitively has a section reserved, where I can overwhelmingly appreciate his value, respect him as an integral, and influential member of our CAPS team, of which I am a huge fan of!

Calling one side, as coming more from my sub-conscience,  and the other side as coming from my reality experience, as far as all things Washington Capitals, is really about as honest of an assessment as I can furnish you!

Hope that helps, LIL!
 Good to talk to you.
On a lighter note, I severely disagree with your posts opening, that you think your opinion doesnít carry as much clout here.  Let me just say,  that you were one of the veterans on the old board, when I first joined. And I havenít forgotten, the few others, YOU included, that gave me a warm, sincere welcome,  when I was a ďposter boyĒ nervous newbie!

Rush
I think (most of us) can agree that heís great at what he does, but what he does isnít that all that great.

Sure, he helps the forwards and the scoring, but thatís really about it.  His only ďdefenseĒ is his
offense, and certainly canít be counted on to shut down the enemies top forwards with anything else other than them needing to account for his offense.

He canít hit, cant clear the crease, canít play the boards, and gives away more pucks than he legitimately steals.  He also makes way to many bonehead, lazy mistakes for a guy making 7.5 and getting 20+ min a game.

Elite Dmen with that cap hit, and the TOI do that regardless of their stats.

  • Bigger than yours!
Well Johhny Dylan Norris Candidate Qualude Carlson has greatly improved his game this year and I think consistently over the last 4 consecutive years.  He is so much a better all around player, and better defenseman than he used to be.  This year's offensive output is great, but I think a bit of an anomaly.  He is a huge asset to this team and he is a great player.  Hew will never, in my eyes, be a GREAT defenseman.  He simply is not outwardly physical and dominating enough to be a GREAT defensemen.  That does not mean he is not invaluable to this teams success, and he HAS improved on both the defensive and offensive sides.

THe delay of game penalty....meh, should not have happened but I don't think it was panick, it happens. Under duress? Sure, but so what...at least he didn't "Orlov it" to the slot for a quality shot on goal.

The Stevens hit....

Now THAT is a great defensemen (and I don't mean because of this hit or hits like it).  I don't want to see anyone hurt, and he got the head which he would get some DPS games for these days, but this is the risk you took when you skated with your head down in the Scotty Zone.  I know Kariya did not deserve it, but he did ask for it....especially in that day and age.  Scotty was probably won of the best open ice hitters in the game.  I think this is an example of the problem with some of the players today.  They come up in an era where you don't have to protect yourself, and you don't have your head on a swivel and all is focused on dangle, dangle, dangle, shoot, score, and NO consideration is given to "protect myself" from guys like Stevens.
I am not promoting or applauding guys getting taken out by guys/hits like this, but I guaranty hits like these when applied within the rules made a huge difference in the effectiveness of Stevens and his ability to prevent guys from scoring on his team.  Paul Kariya does not remember the hit or the next three days.  I bet he remembered not to skate into Scotty's zone the next time he played him.  I'll bet the coaches reminded him not to go there.  Hell, even the announcers are saying..."this is why Babcock did not want him crossing over to that side".  Damn straight, cause there's a killer there waiting to do his job on you.

Anyway, so much for the memories of days gone by.

And one more thing, regarding Carlson and Stephens being discussed in the same post/sentence/paragraph/discussion/thread/subject/game/planet....

This. To add to that, when everyone gets excited because he actually checked someone tells me he ain't physical enough to be a great Dman. I simply don't see the Norris candidate in him. Doesn't mean I hate him. I just hate his contract.
