looks like they are making room for Kuzy

making room for Kempny will be interesting, they should be doing that within the week

Copied this from the GDT as it more along this subject line...

I don't know how the Caps are going to manage the cap.  WIth Kempney out the current roster is 45k OVER the cap.
Kempney is 2.5 mil.  That means you have to move $2.55m to afford him.

Lewy and Ziggy are 700k & 750K hits so sending one of them down, Caps are still over the cap by  $1.75m (with Kempney added back)

Caps are currently carrying 5 centers, so one is going to have to go....maybe Stepho  (he is 1.05m whereas Dowd is $700k)

Add Kempney, minus Lewy, minus Stepho and you are are still over the Cap by about $750k

Those damn contracts (Kuzy, Orlov, Johnny Q) are pinching.  I mean we knew it was coming to this, but surely would have been nice to be paying Carly $7m instead of $8m, or Orlov 4.5 instead of 5.1m and KUZY....$7m instead of 7.8....blah, blah, blah

I know most NHL GM's were planning for a slightly higher cap this year than what was finalized, and that 1 mil or so is definitely going to bite the Caps.

Although, if not for Kuzy's questionable status, his number isn't really all that far fetched for him.  (assuming he plays to potential)

Both Orlov and Carly pretty much took advantage of the D bind the caps were in when they were due for resigning.  I mean I don't fault anyone for getting paid, but you think about 8 mil/year is 1/10 of the whole cap.  You can't afford too many of those guys.  They better be worth it (I'm talking about you Johhny Q)....and Kuzy

I will say for as much bitching as I do about Carly, his level of play has improved (over the last 3 years), and I really don't have a problem with his level of play.  His level of intensity could be better, but the Caps DO rely on him ALOT for all situations and lots of minutes.  And he IS a Norris candidate afterall :smirk:

Go Caps

So my question is...

WHO do you move? Caps have to shave $1m in salary somewhere.  If they send either Dowd or Stepho to Hershey, don't they have to clear Waivers, and can't a team grab them for nothing?  If someone claimed Stepho that would help solve some of the cap issue, but not enough.

Caps have to plan to move someone.  I would assume Stepho, but why would anyone trade for him if they can just claim him on waivers.  I know Dowd is older, but at $700k I would think someone would snatch him if he was put on waivers.

Kempney appears to be days away from the roster so something has to give soon.

Don't know what the hell we gonna do next year.  Just no way Caps have room to sign both Backy and Holtby.  There simply isn't room for another $18-20mil in contracts.

Just a guess, but since the cap didn't go up as much as they thought I'm guessing a lot of teams don't have the space to randomly pick up players without dumping some talent themselves. But as I said before, I don't see any reason to panik about the limited cap space until after the Seattle draft at the conclusion of this season, I bet it's going to get fixed then

Sigenthaler is not hurt and it is not clear to me why Fehrvary was brought up.  I guess they wanted to have some insurance in case Jonas could not play.  I would think they would send him back to Hershey where he will get lots of playing time whereas if he stays with the Caps he will get little playing time.

I'm not aware of any injuries, but it's always good for these guys to get some experience ...

Did anyone ever hear what's wrong with Hagelin?

putting him on LTIR takes him off the cap, so that could be partly the reason...AND he isn't ready so why not.

doesn't make sense, they are only 4 points out of the #1 wildcard right now, he must've lost the locker room

Yeah, I thought it odd for a team in the middle of the hunt.

I kind of hoped that Caps would go for Babcock when he was available previously....3-4 years ago.

Although I really wanted them to go for John Quenneville last year ( you know....when he was available....and we.....didn't have a coach ;) )

I feel you guys here.... The Blues are out Tarasenko, Steen, and Blais (top 3, top 9, and top 6 guy respectively). Steen and Blais on PK1 also :/
I just heard about Blasis and also about you signing Troy Bouwer.  Hope he has something left in the tank.  Anyway good luck going forward.
