They're playing like they can just throw their sticks out on the ice and win. They lost all the one on one battles and were outworked and outskated. They also, with the exception of Ovie the one time, did not hit anybody at all. The Caps are at their best when they're very physical. They are also playing virtually short two forwards.
Panik and Stephenson are a complete waste of space. Even when they get chances, they miss the net or take low quality shots. As I said before, sending out Boyd and inserting Panik has put them into a malaise. I guess they figure they have to play the guy since he got a 4 year deal even if he ends the season with 0 points. Meanwhile, Boyd had 4 points in 6 games. I'd also be leaning heavily on Holtby. Samsonov looks skittish as a rabbit out there.
BTW, Burakovsky is 7-7-14 right now. Panik 0-0-0. Oy...
