to be fair, if the Skins had an owner that didn’t have his head up his rectal cavity, the team might win a few games. I’m guessing the bullets need the same but don’t know, I haven’t watched pro basketball since Magic vs Byrd
Yeah, it's sad - I used to be a pretty big Skins fan, but now I honestly don't care. I don't have the time to watch, but I really don't miss it. I am glad, as I don't agree with most of what the NFL does ore represents these days, so it's nice not to give them any of my viewership or support. I was NEVER a NBA fan, and never really watched, so I'm not really missing anything there. The Skins though, what a train wreck. I agree, Snyder has slowly and systematically (and I believe unintentionally) poisoned the culture of the entire franchise.
Still hanging on to my Caps fandom and really enjoyed supporting this Nats team this year. I like that they (at least appeared) to be a team of guys working for each other toward the ultimate goal.
and WTF....Strasburg opted OUT of his last 4 years of his contract? I guess WS MVP means he's due for a pay raise. Either that or he really wants to go home. I am a little...taken aback by this. Stras was due to make $100m the next four years. What's he looking for? $150m the next four?
The top ten paid pitchers (currently under contract), annual salary & bonus:
Scherzer $35m
Greinke $35m
Verlander $33m
Price $32m
Kershaw $31m
Sale $30m
deGrom $25.5m
Zimmerman $25m
Tanaka $23m
Darvish $22m
Stras was already in the top 7....I don't blame him for wanting to be in the top 5 but HELL MAN, what about the team? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but when he said after the WS "he would do anything for this team of guys" I guess that "anything" didn't include playing with them the next four years for a measly $100 mil.
I'm sure his agent is just doing the best for his client by opting out of the contract option, knowing he can get more than $100m for the next for years. I guess at age 31 also, he might be looking for a 6-7 year deal rather than just 4.
Prior to this season, I'd say Stras was well paid and deserved to be in the top 10 "discussion", but one could argue otherwise with his history. I certainly would say he was one of the top 5 guys all year this year and definitely the number 1 guy in the playoff run and World Series.
I am also sure there are other free agent pitchers out there who will drive these current top salary numbers up (Gerrit Cole made $13m last season and is only 29 years old - that dude is about to get paid somewhere)
Anyway, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I am a little.
I was so worried about the Nats trying to sign Rendon, I hadn't even thought about Stras opting out. (not that I really know about it until someone brought it up)
Now the Nats NEED to sign Rendon and Stras. I hope the Lerners open up those purse strings and do right by these guys. I am not confident we will re-sign Rendon. I hope Stras wants to stay and gives a bit of a home town discount to stay with this team.
GO NATS!
