In the UK, a place can only be called a city if it has a cathedral, otherwise it is a town, no matter how big.  I assume things are different over there.  ...  ?

   I think once a town hits a population of 5000 they have an option of becoming a city. I was unaware you had to have a cathedral to be called a city in the UK. You really do learn something everyday.

oh yea, very different here. You guys had several hundred years more time to build cathedrals than us so it's not a requirement. It's based on population here, but I haven't looked at the numbers in a long time to say what the threshold is.
