Finally found our legs it looked like. Stellar 2nd then dropped off a bit in the 3rd. Good to see The Snake finally get off a decent shot! Needs to stop trying to be a center and shoot da rock!!

Good night Lil

I watched the game on about 2 hour delay, so couldn't join the board party.
Boys looked good I thought. After the first 10 minute onslaught anyway. Figured the BLues would bring it being in their barn and the cup thingy and all. Honestly I figured us for a loss in this one.
Seems the Caps are playing a more aggressive play, which I like. Might get burnt here and there because of it, but definitely seem to be on the attack more. I was a bit worried that will fade once the roster settles in and everyone has a job. The youngins at camp were trying to earn a spot so you figure they would put in the effort.
Time will tell, but I like what we've seen so far. Jake looked good. Ovi looked good. Hell, everyone looked pretty good. If Jake and Willy live up to what they could be, this could be an exciting year. Stepho looked good I thought too.
One more thing, with the roster moves we've made, our penalty kill should certainly be better than last year. We have so many guys who are/can be good PK guys.
I was shocked to hear two of the NBC talking heads pick the Caps for winning the East? Didn't think they garnered that much respect.
Good Game.
Go Caps

A few observations regarding last night and the season:
For those concerned about the Caps shooting enough, the shots last night were 34-22. However the dominance in play went, the Caps did the job in shot suppression. This is going to be a big deal going forward, because the team was retooled this offseason with defense in mind and the offense most likely will regress a bit.
I understand Samsanov will get Friday's game. Obviously, the Caps are taking the Salary Cap opportunity afforded by Kuzy's suspension to get a first look at him. Samsanov has to get all the looks the team can get him this season so they can figure out how they move forward WRT the goalie situation, but the team may be limited in that regard by the salary cap issue. They are obviously going to try to take every chance they get. And I presume that Samsanov will get a lot of work in Hershey when he is down there.
Having said that, the Caps must be diligent in how they handle the backup goaltender situation this season from a standings point of view. Last year Copley went 16-7-3 as the backup. That's 35 standings points in a year the Caps were 9 standings points away from missing the playoffs. Regardless of how good of a goalie one thinks Copley is/was last season, he was good enough to make an enormous contribution in a year where Holtby was OK but not great in the regular season. It is not realistic for fans to expect the backup goalie to produce that level of standings support this season, regardless of which player(s) man the position. Which means that, to make the playoffs again this season the Caps probably need to get more from Holtby.
