Vrana signs 2 year deal
richkrt99:
I agree with Rush....Two year deal is good opportunity for both parties. Gives both sides the chance to see how Vrana really matures. Although, I really think Caps mgmt would have signed a bigger deal if they had the cash now. I really like what I've seen from Vrana last couple years, although I was of the opinion to trade him a few years ago when we had a surplus of wings, and I was not impressed with him and his development. Maybe he is just blooming a little late - well I guess it's not really late, he's only 23
As a Cap fan, I hope Vrana continues to progress like he has last couple seasons, especially last year. Ultimately his success will lead to tougher contract situation for the Caps as they will continue to have money issues. Two years from now, if Vrana is a legit 30+ goal scorer, he will getting a much bigger paycheck (somewhere).
Although, in two years Ovi's contract will be done and who the hell knows what Ovi will do at that point. He will be 36 years old. Anyone going to cough up $10mil for a 36 year old Ovi? Not to mention question marks for Backy and Holtby as well by then.
Glad to get Vrana signed though. I wasn't really worried we wouldn't, but nice to have it done.
Go Caps

Cap restriction forced the short term - GMBM pretty much stated that a month ago - that they would look for a short term bridge deal to get him signed.
Plus, I am so grateful for Vranna in that HIS PLAY pretty much forced Burka to FINALLY be sold down the river.
Whose left to sign? Djoos and Stephenson? Anybody else.
Hope they are willing to play for peanuts. What? do the Caps have like $1 mil left in cap space?

$935,706 left in cap
Last 2 yrs Djoos' and Stephenson's cap hits have been $650,000/yr
$650,000 was League minimum so they cannot make less, and the league minimum is scheduled to increase to $700,000 per http://www.puckreport.com/2009/07/nhl-minimum-wage-maximum-wage-by-year.html
mathematically speaking, without a trade, one of them is gone

And there ain’t got a lot of tradable contracts . . .I wonder what the penalty will be for bein a mil over the cap? 🤣

I'm glad Bura is gone. And I'm glad we signed Vrana. He's been way better than Bura and in a shorter amount of time.

--- Quote ---The NHL salary cap is the total amount of money that National Hockey League (NHL) teams are allowed to pay their players. It is a "hard" cap, meaning there are no exemptions (and thus no luxury tax penalties are required).
