I'm cool with that.  $3.35m doesn't seem like too much for a 24 year old,  24 goal getter.  I know he isn't all that proven, but he has improved his game over the last three seasons.
Cap restriction forced the short term - GMBM pretty much stated that a month ago - that they would look for a short term bridge deal to get him signed.

Plus, I am so grateful for Vranna in that HIS PLAY pretty much forced Burka to FINALLY be sold down the river.

Whose left to sign?  Djoos and Stephenson?  Anybody else.

Hope they are willing to play for peanuts.  What? do the Caps have like $1 mil left in cap space?

3.35 mil / 24 goals = $139,583 per goal
3.35 mil / 49 pts = $56,779 per point

Last year we paid Burka what?  $3.25 mil For.....12 goals, 13 assists.  Vrana almost exactly doubled that output, not to mention not being a total fucking life suck on the team like Burka.

Sorry to keep kicking you Burka, but your departure was way fucking overdue.

Now that Burka is gone....Going to have to go back to bitching about Dylan now.....or maybe Orlov will be the whipping boy.  I sure as hell hope not on either count.

Pretty cool pay/performance stats Rich!
I believe Vrana DID make the Bura trade quite a bit easier on Caps mgmnt to bring to reality.
It’s interesting that Vranas new deal is very similar to the two-year, show me, contract that Bura was given, by the Caps, not too long ago!

I think it’s smart on GMBM’s part, NOT to have gone ALL IN. with a bigger, long term deal for Vrana.
I’m a fan of Jake, and he is quite a bit further along, overall. than Bura was, at the same timeframe in their careers.
He has responded much better, especially to the small disciplinary actions, given out over the season, which is great, although he dropped off a bit in the playoffs.

This deal gives Jake an excellent opportunity to show a continued, steady growth, and increased maturity, to propel him into the ranks of a highly feared forward in the league!!
OR NOT, interestingly enough!  If he doesn’t pan out! ( I do believe it’s more likely he will, though)!

Either way, both sides will have had suffficient time to gain a lot of info, when signing time comes up again!
I like this deal! C’mon Jake!!!!

Unless something goes terribly wrong, I expect Vrana and Willy to be 30 goal scorers this season. Vrana had 24 and Willy has 22 last season, that's just about double from the Cup run, and Willy had that lovely vacation at the beginning of last season. I wish the Caps would've made a longer deal with Vrana

I agree with Rush....Two year deal is good opportunity for both parties.  Gives both sides the chance to see how Vrana really matures.  Although, I really think Caps mgmt would have signed a bigger deal if they had the cash now.  I really like what I've seen from Vrana last couple years, although I was of the opinion to trade him a few years ago when we had a surplus of wings, and I was not impressed with him and his development.  Maybe he is just blooming a little late - well I guess it's not really late, he's only 23
As a Cap fan, I hope Vrana continues to progress like he has last couple seasons, especially last year.  Ultimately his success will lead to tougher contract situation for the Caps as they will continue to have money issues.  Two years from now, if Vrana is a legit 30+ goal scorer, he will getting a much bigger paycheck (somewhere).
Although, in two years Ovi's contract will be done and who the hell knows what Ovi will do at that point.  He will be 36 years old.  Anyone going to cough up $10mil for a 36 year old Ovi?  Not to mention question marks for Backy and Holtby as well by then.

Glad to get Vrana signed though.  I wasn't really worried we wouldn't, but nice to have it done.

$935,706 left in cap

Last 2 yrs Djoos' and Stephenson's cap hits have been $650,000/yr

$650,000 was League minimum so they cannot make less, and the league minimum is scheduled to increase to $700,000 per http://www.puckreport.com/2009/07/nhl-minimum-wage-maximum-wage-by-year.html

I'm glad Bura is gone. And I'm glad we signed Vrana. He's been way better than Bura and in a shorter amount of time.

The NHL salary cap is the total amount of money that National Hockey League (NHL) teams are allowed to pay their players. It is a "hard" cap, meaning there are no exemptions (and thus no luxury tax penalties are required).

Yep.  While my comment had a bit of jest in it, the league wouldn’t approve a contract that put a team over the cap.   However, a team “can” exceed the cap by bonuses etc, (ie Chicago a few years ago), in which case there is hell to pay.

I sadly didn't get to see enough of Stephenson to have an opinion of him, but I don't want to lose Djoos.

Players sent down to the AHL do not count towards the NHL cap, so there is a way to keep BOTH Djoos and Stephenson....if one plays in the AHL

Yeah, our cap situation is a fuckin mess, there’s also Boyd and Slieshnwhatever to consider too

One things for sure though, we our depth is pretty tight.  There’s a good chance that any of the four or five NHL ready guys could be snatched on waivers either before the season, or worse if they’re called up for injuries.

Those are emergency call-ups making the player exempt from waiver eligibility both calling up and sending down.

Let's hope GMBM is better at trades than GMGM ever was...

After this season, who will Seattle steal also......

For emergencies yes, but like anything else in the CBA there’s a ton of stipulations etc involved so it’ll be hard to tell.

For Seattle, I’m betting they’ll take Copley or Jensen (contracts, NMCs etc provided), but Samsonov or even Holts can come into play depending on what we do with Holts situation
