The Capitals can clinch the Metropolitan Division again tonight
Headline photo: Patrick Smith
The Washington Capitals could win their fourth consecutive Metropolitan Division title and their ninth division title win in 12 seasons tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Capitals already have home-ice advantage in the first round, thanks to the Penguins. Tonight if they win the Metro Division, Washington will play the first wildcard team in the Eastern Conference. We just don’t know who that team is yet.
The Caps can win the Metro if these conditions are met:
If they win against Montreal
OR
If they get one point against Montreal AND the Islanders lose in any fashion
OR
The Islanders lose in regulation
As of Thursday, the Capitals have a 34 percent chance of matching up with the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs. The next highest opponent is the Columbus Blue Jackets at 28 percent.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes can also both stamp their tickets to the postseason tonight. The result of the Capitals and Canadiens game will effect the chances for both of these clubs.

They really starting with Carlson (on his off side) with Jensen? I don't mind the pair but don't think I'd add "more" thinking to Carlsons's duties, if at all possible.. :snicker:

I agree. He seems a little lost on the left side.
I'm surprised Siegenthaler is not getting any game time since he well may be coming in at some point. For the last couple weeks he hasn't even played in Hershey..
ArJunaZ:
We have two huge games left against desperate opponents. We just need one to take division title.
Montreal fighting for their lives and need to win tonight to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. Canes and Jackets next game are against easy bottom feeders. so for Montreal this is a must win game.
Isles need to win against Panthers and us to take division. You know that Trotz would love to win division against his old team and his players probably would love to give that to him. Hopefully tonight the Cats can put a whipping on a sleeping Isles team like they did us a few days ago.
Penguins have no chance to take division left since they got crushed by the lowly Wings. :uh-huh:
If we take division the only team we won't have home team advantage against is the Bolts and possibly Calgary, but I have doubts Calgary will make it to the final.
