That was no ruse. His neck protector got hit hard and his helmet was unsnapped. He shook it off to make it clear to the refs he had an equipment malfunction after that puck hit him in the neck.

It's been discussed before, the goalies are told when a helmet stap gets popped off to throw the helmet off. Most fans are aware of this, but I couldn't help but notice the Pilly fans displeasure of the play.
