The Ovie 800
« on: Wednesday February 13, 2019, 09:08:35 AM Eastern »
Ovie is on pace for roughly 55 goals this year, which means his second 60 goal season is a very realistic possibility.  Also, at his current Goals Per Game, hell hit 700 in the first half of next season (about 30% in).
This would but 800 in sight, within 166 games, which at that pace would that two seasons

But, he isn’t getting any younger.

So to maintain, or speed up this pace and adjust for age,
he simply will need to increase the chances and decrease the ice time to avoid injuries and fatigue.

So, a potential additional 28 games (assuming they make the playoffs), for three seasons would risk what could amount to a whole season of risk to injury and additional fatigue. Which the maximum reward being an improved resume, ot risks and hurts his chance to be known as he nw of the top three goal ever, and permanent household name, all with the Caps name attached.

So how to do this?
Simple: Thr Ovie 800
Run a system that is designed pad stats with higher scoring for both sides, that will also limit the games played by increasing the losses.  To fit that build a roster of offensive minded players  that will get Ovie the puck and get more penalties than power plays.

Then if pointed out, you can say “That’s just ridiculous, we’d never put individual  our goal is always a
Cup and we’re doing what we believe to be the best way to do that in ‘today’s NHL, and we showed it 2018.”  Then just avoid discussing the 6-3 loss while Ovie had two goals the night the before,

This is actually a great responstactic, using cliches and a single event to create an illusion of then being connected.

There is a clear picture that Ovie 800 is the Caps priority and more Cups just aren’t.  While they would be welcome, a 1st round exit, or even not qualifying would also be welcomed.

The next few years will (assuredly)  just be the count down to Ovie 800, and it will be fun, but make no mistake that is the number one priority, and everything is supporting that.  So for us wanting well played games, sophisticated systems, 200 ft players, the goalies crease cleared, more than one player that can at least fight without looking like a god damn maxi pad after, we’re gonna have to wait.
Those who want 7-4 games and being free to wat h baseball in May will love it.

The team is just not a a beautiful drama great team finally built for today’s game and was shown last year, Nor is it just an ownership and management operating out of naive ideals, and personal preferences, with an incompetent GM
coach. While both statements have merits, this is first is an organization going after a record

This is not the naive marketing phrase “Today’s NHL”The Ovie 800 has been , is, and will be “Todays Caps”Nri

After accepting this, and adjusting (or dropping)
expectations accordingly. The games are more relaxing and enjoyable to watch.

Well this thread is as relative as any....

What are your predictions for Ovi's goals & assists this year (not including playoffs)?

I'll say Ovi ends the regular season with 48 goals and 41 assists.  (surely hope, for the Caps sake I am WAY underestimating)

How about the rest of yuns?

Well his current pace is .6 GPG . 5 Assists, 26 games left (.. .carry 7x I really shouldn’t do math with a pen . . ) he’s on pace from 54 goals 39 Assists , but that’s only in pace so it could change wither way, particularly if he gets another hot streak, or the opposite so . . .ill go ahead and say 58 and 42

I think the bigger question is does he achieve 800 in a Caps sweater. When his current is up, will he stay here or will he bounce around like jäger has done? Money obviously isn't an issue(for his great grand kids), does he sign an extension for $1M a year so there's cap space to get some quality Dmen?

Ovie will get 700 in a Caps sweater (barring serious injury), but not 800.  Do not lose sight of the fact that his contract ends on July 1, 2021, 7 months before the next winter Olympics.  I fully expect that he will not sign another NHL contract, at least right away, but instead return to Russia so he can have one more chance to play in the Olympics.  What his contract status is if he were to do that and sit out an NHL season, I do not know.  Maybe he'd be happy to play in the KHL for a few years afterward.

For SURE he doesn't sign a $1 million contract were he to return.  $6 million, maybe -- not $1 million (as long as he continues to score enough to be viewed as still a dominant NHL player.)

I'd love to see Ovi get 800+ and end up at least 2nd on the all-time goals list, AND get a bunch more Cups. But it's clear that the Capitals organization doesn't want more Cups. It isn't that they don't feel like Cups are a priority, it's that they simply DO NOT WANT more Cups. It's like another Cup would cause financial ruin to the team, so they are avoiding it like the plague.

Ted's motto is "READ MY LIPS: NO NEW CUPS" and to achieve that goal, they let go of the first Caps coach in history to win us a Cup, and hired an invalid to run the show.

He's on pace for 55 or so but I think he falls a bit shorter than that, just given how he seems to have cooled off a bit and given how a bunch of his goals were from multiple hat tricks (which I probably wouldn't expect him to get a bunch more hat tricks) and given that he's playing with a bunch of a retards led by a retard coach. I just hope he reaches 50+ and gets another Rocket. Would be a nice extra feather in his cap especially considering the organization's desires to not win Cups anymore. More goals is basically a consolation prize.

I say he needs 13 more goals (51 total) to make it difficult (not impossible, just difficult) for the rest of the guys behind him to beat him. He basically needs to score roughly .5 goals per game to force other players to score a bit above their season goals/game average.

If he scores 15 (basically finishing the rest of the season at his career goals/game pace), he'll force the other guys to score at a .8 goals/game pace for the remainder of the season, which unless one of them turns red hot, is likely not going to happen.

I didn’t, At his current pace he’d be at 759 in 2021, which would have him hitting 800 in 2022. At that point, The Caps will need to do everything to keep him, for year or two including dangling another Cuo at him, or even letting him play in the Olympics

From what I've read, it isn't Ted that kept OV from playing in the Olympics. It was buttman who prevented the NHL players from participating in PyeongChang because of "lack of exposure", while at the same time had preseason games in China "to gain exposure". Ironically the next winter Olympiad is in China, February 2022. The current CBA expires at the completion of the '21-'22 season. It will be interesting to see what the players get out it in regards to Olympic participation, which would be very easy to facilitate IMO.

And then YOU provide your estimate of each.. That means put numbers to it.... :raspberry:

The question is....What is more important to OVI?  I'd say at THIS point, he has the Cup and it does not appear they will contend for another so the Olympic failures stick in his craw more than the number of goals he has.  I mean, I'm sure he wants 800, but when his contract is up and he has 729 goals....is he willing to add another 2 or likely 3 NHL seasons to get to 800?  Will he have to forego the Olympics to get the 800?  Only he really knows, but I would speculate, he would rather have that Olympic gold than anything else in 2022.

Realistically the money will be insignificant  (what's another 10 or so million when you have 100  :uh-huh: .  He could tack on a few years at x million a year, or go play at home (Moscow) and make some good coin and practice for the Olympics.

Or he could sit at home (or any fucking where he wants to) and count his money and poke his wife and raise his kids and drink and get fat and enjoy life

My predictions (from 2-13-19) were 48 goals and 41 assists.
