I think Oshie brings it every night. He worked hard. I agree on Backstrom and Kuzy. Kuzy has sucked since his concussion. I think Eller is god-awful this season, and they are getting nothing from DSP. Orlov is horrid and I don't have the same love for Siegenthaler that Locker does. Niskanen looks like he's still injured (at least I hope so cuz if this is the new normal we are in real trouble) and Orpik is, well, 1 year older. It's not pretty right now, but they still are the defending champs so if the coaching staff can get their collective head out of their collective asses, they still have a shot to do something this year.
Beaglefan2:
I don't know why we don't start benching guys. If I am Reirdon, I sent a message to this team that I am in charge and I bench Backstrom. Can you imagine the reaction to that? Sit him, tell him to quit coasting, quit looking for the perfect pass and shoot the damn puck!
Same thing for Kuzy. One goal in the last 20 games!
Start paying these guys for goals, not passes.

Good teams won't let us waltz into the O zone and dance with the puck which is all 92 wants to do. Frankly, 19 is playing as soft as a koala bear as well. And Eller. Totally ineffective. When we are good we are down low cycling the puck and winning the zone time game. We can't play the wide open style they are hoping to play. We get broken down for odd-man rushes all night long. Leave that shit to TOR and BUF and just play fucking hockey. Look what Trotz has done with an average talent Islander team. They got rid of their one really skilled player in Tavares and look how the system works. Rierden doesn't have the confidence of the players or in himself to REQUIRE them to play that way. This is what happens with a first year coach who doesn't have the stones or the backing of management to step on the guys who don't play the right way.

Well said. I'm getting real tired of the highlight reel dangling attempts by Kuzy and others. And yeah, good coaches can take average teams and make them good. TR is taking a team that's pretty damn good on paper and making them sub-par...
Not very impressed. When we struggled early on in the season, I thought "just a period of adjusting to a new coach" so I gave the Caps some slack. When we started going on a winning streak, I thought "okay TR got the team in gear now great." Looks like I was wrong, and that was just Ovi being a beast that was masking the issues of the team overall...

Spot on. 2 or 3 a night from Ovi can make anybody look good. The problem is that TR came in under the "all he has to do is continue what BT was doing" mantra. But coaching in the NHL is not as easy as it looks. It's a fast game and making in-game changes is an art not so easily learned when you are top dog. Juggling the lines is easy, but changing the style of play, and making players commit to it, is a whole different animal. He's going to have to learn on the fly and the vets on this team need to step up and help.
