--- Quote from: waynerivers on Wednesday December 05, 2018, 09:54:05 AM Eastern ---Reaves is a dirtbag and Vegas is easily the dirtiest team in the league.  What last night also showed is that, despite our success last spring, when up against large, heavily checking forwards, our midget sized defense has problems.  Carlson has size but doesn't use it enough.  Kempny is solid.  The rest of them get beaten on the boards and behind the net and get pushed around too much.  They also have a hard time clearing guys out in front. Without Orpik, it's especially noticeable.  What they need to do is probably make a trade at some point and try to pick up a physical d-man.  Maybe package Burakovsky and another player or draft picks.  I can't see them doing again what they did last year with this defense crew.

I wouldn't call Reeves a dirtbag.  He's physically dominant, aggressive, will fight anybody,200ft player,  (iow the way ya should play), and still is putting up more goals then those on our "third scoring line".  The issue is, with Wilson being relied on as a top scorer, we have no one to counter Reeves and his style, yet alone use in the role.

That being said, I completely agree with you on not only the DCorps,  but the rest of the team sans Willy.  Physicality, intensity, and aggression have been void 99% of the season, and given the injuries and circumstances of Oshie, Kuzy and Wilson injures, to is absolutely clear that is a major issue  and will continue to be exploited by our opponents.

Everyone is griping about the PP, and it has been bad last couple, but overall are not our PP stats pretty good?  You can't judge it over a few game stretch (and we do have key guys missing).
Same goeas for two losses in a row.  Two losses after what? Six wins in a row?  I'll take that kind of streak anytime.  You ain't going to win them all.

The loss of Willy is my biggest concern.  He drives this team in more ways than one.

Now I know this is not going to be popular, but I don't think the Reaves hit deserves suspension.  I love Willy, and I don't like Reaves.  The hit was late, definitely late, but Reaves planted his shoulder in Willy's shoulder.  I just watched the replay several times (thanks to.....whoever posted it).  WTF did willy not have his helmet strapped?  Reaves caught him good, but there was no head contact whatsoever. AS IN ALL replays, you watch is in slow mo and it seems really late, but watch it full speed and it's pretty quick from time Willy passes puck until the hit.  If you are advocating suspension for this hit, then under the same parameters you would have wanted Willy suspended for the hit a few games ago.  There is the difference that Reaves WAS trying to hit Willy, but use the same argument we use EVERY TIME Willy gets called.....the players need to protect themselves.  Willy has his head turned facing the opposite direction of his progression.  There are always uncontrollable factors and the game is so fast, you can't suspend someone every time they hit someone.  Put it this way.  Reverse the two players.  Had Willy hit Reaves in this EXACT circumstance - would you be calling for a suspension?  Look at the replay and be honest.  The DOPS is warped and inconsistent, and gets it wrong alot (IMO), but if YOU are the DOPS (and Not the Caps fan that you are) what factor would lead you to the conclusion that this should result in suspension.  Because the player is injured?

The real problem is Willy's head hit the ice.  Is it Reaves fault Willy's helmet wasn't strapped?  I think if his helmet is on, there is no injury.
I love Willy.  He is one of my very favorite players.  He gets a bad rap most of the time. But if the roles were exactly reversed, I would not want Willy suspended for this hit, despite his "record"

i agree there should be no-suspension, not only do I loathe the concept of suspensions, and the DOPM, but suspendeding him doesn’t help us, it helps the teams VGK is playing against.   Additionally, it will give support to the NHLs bias.

As far as Willy going after him later. . . Reeves will be a tough fight for Willy, then factor in this injury and how dependent we are on him, we simply need a couple top-tier enforcers.

You need to watch the replay again. Willy did have the helmet strapped. That's how hard the hit was. Happens every now and then. I think hockey players intentionally use inferior straps as compared to the nfl, and the strap is never tight, always hangs just under the chin. I see no reason why hockey players won't strap their helmets tight like football does, but that's the way it's been since day one. As if to say alright we'll comply with the helmet rule, at the absolute minimum level

Reeves is just like Willy, every fan outside of Vegas hates him but wants that kind of plater on their team. He also doesn't have the league scrutinizing his every play, thus he can play a little harder.

Reeves post game, mildly interesting....

it’s 1:00pm and I can’t find anything about supplemental discipline

Mick
Pretty much agree with your whole post
Especially the part about “smaller player”. I pretty much think that has been one of the main factors in Willy’s suspensions. The head contacts were a result of size and body positions of the hit players and not a target of Wiily

Geez I hate posting  from a phone. Eyes are way too old for this horseshit
