I certainly hope that is true because the refs definitely got it wrong.  I'm not a conspiracy guy, but they "decided" it was a match penalty hit to the head after the refs huddled up.  If they didn't truly see it then how do you make that call?  If they did truly see it then how do you make that call?
Have they been instructed to call as much as possible at any given opportunity against Willie for payback.  Why would the league want to target him.  He could be a super NHL poster child....player who erred in his ways, got caught, took the punishment, changed his game as instructed and now is blossoming into a super star.  Instead they decide they want to be petty children and ruin a guys career?  Think what this bad call by the ref could cost Willy.  Willy did exactly as he has been instructed - make effort to avoid contact with the head.

Problem is even if the league decides no supplemental, doesn't the penalty call still stand?  Doesn't this have an impact with the call on your record....like later in the year if you receive another match penalty?

I know I'm a homer and more of an old school hockey kind of guy, but IMO Wilson did not try and hit the guy.  He DID try and minimize the contact.  He certainly did not target the guy.

I love Alan May's comment....in this league you might as well get rid of the equipment, the sticks, the puck.....

I will be amazed if the league does the right thing on this.  Can the rescind the match penalty call?  THis would be a wonderful opportunity for the NHL to recover some validity by doing the proper thing for Wilson, a guy they obviously have it out for.

What?  Did Willy sleep with Bettman's daughter or something?  OH!  SHIT!  I know what it was....Willy slept with Crosby's wife, didn't he?  :uh-huh:

I watched the game late so I could not comment during, but I expected a firestorm of activity on these boards this morning about the Willy penalty.

Geez...it's like you people have lives to live on Saturday or something.

Where did you here this?

And why is all the chatter on this hit in the wrong (Islanders) thread?

Isabelle is reporting that the Capitals have been informed by the league that Wilson will not have a hearing for further discipline.  It didn’t say that the match penalty is rescinded which they usually do and I assume that since there is no further hearing the automatic suspension is lifted.

This discussion is not in the Islander thread.

I just saw it on a tweet from Bob Mackenzie. Sounds like it is true. Good news.
Because of the nature of this penalty call, meaning the match penalty that was assessed. It is an automatic suspension for Wilson unless reviewed by the league and it is decided it didn't deserve a suspension. If what Mackenzie says is true that means the league is admitting that the refs made a bad call.
Officials should be held accountable for mistakes likes this. It has happened before. The league should have a hearing involving these officials.

Well that would be good news.  The NHL should do the right thing.  I do not have a problem with Refs making mistakes - it happens.  Game is too fast to keep up with all ten guys at once and not miss something now and then.  I don't need a Ref apology - just "Yep, we missed, after seeing the replay, it was a bad call"

Willy still got to be careful.  This could have been catastrophic.

I do like that Rierdon spoke his mind and his point of view on it AND that he mentioned the Oshie/Kuzy incidents.
