Anyone interested, I've been watching this live feed of the California fires for hours. Amazing footage. Very sad.

What are you guys talking about! Was the board down?

The board wasn’t down but all the posts had “Backy PPG” all over them

Is this because 74 is not in the lineup?

Have fun and good luck to the Pats.
Naw I have season tickets for the Pats. They have had a tough start to the season but have played better recently. Their pk has killed them. Tonight they only gave up one pp goal on 9 attempts. A lot of penalties in this game. BTW the Pats won 5-1. They have a couple if decent players. Jake Leschyshyn was drafted in the 2nd round by Vegas. I kind of like a 20 year old defenceman we have. His name is Aaron Hyman. He seems to be a late bloomer. Mediocre junior player until this season. I like him because he is 6'5 and 225 lbs. And he is actually a point per game player.
Even junior hockey is getting soft. At one time there was a lot of hitting and a lot of fights. Not so much now. Still more physical than the NHL though.

Not much in the GDT tonight. From what Ive heard Holtby was our best player again. And heard Orlov and Kempny were a bit out to lunch. The player I'm most curious about is Bowey. I think he has played fairly well recently. I know he got extra minutes tonight. Can anyone tell me how he looked.

Rierden mentioned postgame, that Bowey’s been making a good case for himself to remain a starter. I’ve noticed a solid steady improvement with him the last couple weeks. I wasn’t as high on him last year. I saw in him very good potential, that was just a shade under ready, for an NHL shot.
I now think the wait has paid off, as his growth, confidence, and maturity, are improving nearly game by game. He is the top bright spot talk, right now, in the organization, IMO!

Obviously a low scoring game. BOB was damn near impenetrable tonite for the Jackets. Holtz played very good too. We had some great SOG chances that just didn’t hit the twine!

Bowey in the beginning of last year was so bad I thought he head zero potential. By the end of the year I thought he was playing pretty well and he could possibly stay in the NHL. This year I think he has been really solid and I’m hoping he continues to progress.

I agree that Bowey has been a bright spot. He was a bit slower at making the transition to the NHL than I thought. But it looks like he is getting there. I think he may have passed Djoos on the depth chart. With all of the prospect dmen we have Djoos might find himself out of the NHL.

Hey Beags.
I’m trying to remember where I was sat with Bowey, just before the playoffs last year. I just can’t recall. I probably put put him up on the shelf, somewhere early in the beginning of last year, when the team was in a more chaotic shape.
He’s definitely on the good radar screen now! Hope to see more of him!!
Hope you’re doin well!!

I totally agree with you about Bowey’s slower progression! That was the word I was looking for
in my earlier post, “transition”. (Im getting old, bro, thanks)

Not quite on the same page with you about Djoos. Djoos plays smart, and sometimes his size definitely hurts him.
He is actually borderline too physically small, for any NHL defensemen, as far as general standards go, IMHO, BUT, I haven’t seen much of what some here have said about him being soft and trying to avoid getting hit, (although, I’d forgive a bit of self preservation, for him).
What I have observed is good hockey IQ, and though he may not knock a guy on his ass at the boards,
he will use his body and TRY, resulting, many times in a decent disruption to the opponents timing and offensive sequence, when in our zone. Similar to Eller, who doesn’t take away a ton of pucks at board battles, but is a CONTINUAL thorn in the side to opponents trying to take the puck up the other way. Often creating opportunities for another linemate to regain puck possession. To me, for the NHL skaters possessing less stellar natural talents, that’s what keeps you employed with TOI.

Anyway, another subject.  So hey Maaco, do you still doubt my meeting with Carly?
It’s was a simple good thing.

Some years ago Karl Alzner was the same -- he needed transition time, and a couple of false starts, before he got his feet firmly planted in the NHL.

It is shortsighted to make judgments on players based on their first one or two, especially up-and-down, exposures to the league.  Some players, especially the very very top draft picks in good draft years, walk into the league and take it by storm right away.  More struggle at first and need acclamation time.

Sorry but I'm on the side that a 160kb dman doesn't belong in the NHL. I have been wtching the NHL since 71 and  I have never seen a dman as weak physically as Djoos.  I dont care if he is smart with the puck. He is not good without the puck.
About meeting Carlson. I dont know. I never put much thought into it.

Siegenthaler looked good in his debut, I expect to see more of him with Orpik and Carlson out

I’m mostly with you on the 160 lb guideline. It’s a very understandable safe bet, as a rule. Nobody would fault that judgement.
I don’t, however, think he’s weak, relatively speaking, pound for pound. I see more of a “real trooper” attitude in him. He has had some effective hits, I mean, he doesn’t just bounce off an opponent all the time. I also think his puck bring up, and handling has improved. We see less mistakes, as of late, from him, but I understand your angle.

I still don’t get your response to my meeting Carly, and trying to pass on to you a friendly message?
FYI, last year I was lucky enough to get LIL a video with Alan May saying hello to her!
I’m wondering if you’ve possibly misread something, in this case?  I’ll let this lie, as it’s such a small thing, but it is curiously odd, as well.

10 years, I bet the average NHL player weight will be around 170 - 175 lbs. The smaller, faster (and more skilled) the better.. It also won't be long (imo) before they start cracking down on interference when you see guys dump the puck and then get pinched against the wall trying to chase the puck into the zone.. They'll outlaw that here soon.. It'll be a total stick/check type game, where any body/body contact will be called interference or holding, etc.. Kids over 6' tall will be encouraged to play goalie only. They'll introduce "unnecessary roughness" as the new normal 2 min penalty, if you check with your body instead of your stick. Your team get wronged? You want to fight?? Well, ok.. But it'll be a 5 minute major and automatic game misconduct! See you soon!!  :poop:

With the size of players now. Its more about weight than height. Djoos is 6 feet but only 160lbs. Petterson in Vancouver is 6'2 and 176 lbs. There are also the shorter players players in the league now. It really does look like that is the direction the NHL wants to go.
Maybe I am a traditionalist but this isnt the way the game was meant to be played. The game is being Americanized. I use that term because it seems to be the new American fans that want the hitting and fighting out of the game.
I would much prefer to watch a junior game than an NHL game. At least there is a bit of physical play. The NHL seems to be getting worse every year. The game even seems a lot softer this year compared to last season. Maybe that's because we havent seen Wilson yet.
