I do understand where your coming from 4Caps. SOG was definitely in Hens favor. Holtby did make some crucial saves. He always does, but so far this season, (yes, it’s early, still), his general game pattern has included both critical saves, AND some goals, HE ADMITS, were on him, and would like to have back.
I point this out because one of the differences in this Hens game, was a slight tilt upward in our puck handling, AND the overall TEAM defense, reducing the percentage of quality SOG, by keeping Hens more to outside, than I’ve been seeing lately.
My guess is that the different line combos, may have resulted in our forwards helping out a bit more on defense. A change we all noticed in last years playoffs, that really paid off for us!!
I, like you, am going to take a second look at the game, because the differences I mention, weren’t great sweeps of obvious change, by the eye test.
I do think we played better overall, because of the above mentioned. I mean, a 1-1 game, between Caps and Hens, after 58 minutes of play, and 10 tons of offensive talent on the ice that night, was probably not expected by too many of us, to be sure. It did star to get real competitive with somewhere around 8-9 minutes left in the game, and we WON!!👍👍
Pittsburgh did have one or two scary cycling moments, late in the game, but Holtz and D prevailed.
I think this game was more of a coaching battle, behind the scenes, and between periods, more than anything else, and with the Oilers and Hens victories in mind, my opinion of Reirden has gone up a notch or so! That’s what I took from this game most of all!

Glad you were there, too! No pressure, but if you ever wanna have a beer, I’m usually at PWC lounge, between periods. Probably will be sporting my new Kempny sweater! Just got it autographed at the 365 member party tonite!!! 😁😁👍

Did you watch a different game than we did? The Pens had over 30 high quality scoring chances in this game. More than double what we had. We did not play well defensively. Holtby played well and we got very lucky with the goal posts. I believe the Pens hit 5 in this game. The way we played in this game we would lose 99 out of 100 games. This was that one game. The coaching doesnt deserve credit for this game.
The one thing Reirden did do in this game was split up Niskanen and Orlov. It has been an adventure for that pairing this year. Both struggled again. Kempny hasn't played well either. Carlson is way ahead of the other dmen on this team. He had a couple bad games in a row recently but other than those 2 games he has been very good. In the defensive zone as well. Its bad when Carlson is your best defensive dman.
A plus is Bowey. He is looking like he belongs in the NHL. Even got some pk time. He might have caught up to Djoos.

That is too funny.  It appears to be an autonomic response. The Hens may have been genetically modified with this built-in diving reflex.
