Agreed Alta.
Trotz has generally taken the softer route, at least for the public perception. Although he got my respect when he famously benched Ovi, that time, when he was late for practice.

Ya know me, I think almost all coaches, in pro sports nowadays are way too "player friendly"! Maybe we see it a little less in hockey, just due to the nature of the sport! But, in the NFL, NBA, and MLB, it's just pathetic how such little is mentioned, or acted upon by coaches, when even the FANS can easily witness, multiple, repetitive, and predictable, displays of low player EFFORT!! Many of the players have NO WORRY, of consequence, when deciding not to hustle, because they face no criticism for their negative actions!

The passive avoidance of REAL conversation about the subject, is by design, and IMHO, done with the intentional omission, by most media coverage, so as not to draw too much attention to the matter, as they know, many fans would not watch TALENTED athletes, who they sincerely believed were inherently lazy! Thus the media is stuck with having to "create" hype, around rather average performance levels to make it palatable for the average TV viewer!.......Oops, sorry, I'm ranting again! Time to stop. I'm just beating a dead horse!

Trotz needs to tell, not ask...

Easier said than done. It can be tricky dealing with star players at times. It doesn't always end well for coaches when criticizing their star players.

Star player, captain or not. . . sit him until he listens.

He already got benched for being late to work so why not?

Trotz is assuredly on a short leash, and it’s likely Ovie will go to the KHZl after his contract is up anyway, so what’s to loose?

Yea, this will tell us how much OV cares. Will he stay to try and win a Cup, or will he bail just to keep playing his way

I agree that players should be benched for lack of effort. But the owner might hot agree. Its difficult to deal with the big egos.
I'm not sure if Trotz is on a short leash or not. Some fans complain about him and want him gone but I haven't gotten a feeling that management is considering firing Trotz. I think worst case scenario for Trotz is they let his him go when his contract runs out. I happen to like Trotz. I think he has handled Ovi better than any other coach here. I'm not sure if we can win a cup with him or not. I'm not sure we have the personnel. I'd like us to be a bit more feisty.
