You really don't get it. There is a reason why these players dont want to visit the White House. It isn't the White House or the politics. Its Trump himself. They hate him. If it was a couple of players I would blame the players but its the majority of the players. Same thing happened with the NBA. A lot if the players said they wouldnt attend so Trump said that they werent invited. It is pretty obvious that a lot if people have issues with Trump.  And this is factual. BTW I dont really hate Trump. I don't like him either. I do think he is an idiot. Like I said the problem isn't the politics the problem is the man himself. And why am I not surprised you are in love with him.

No, you really, really don't get it. As I said about the Eagles, they were trying to play Trump, leave him there holding his dork for the champions photo op. The nba team said they would not go before Trump had the opportunity to ask. People are berated into hating trump by the liberal socialist DNC run press based on nothing. This tactic works well on weak minded people. It's seems the collective memory of the average liberal is about 30 seconds. They conveniently forget how much they all liked to hang out with Trump before he changed his party affiliation to an R, which wasn't that long ago. Even that didn't deter very many liberals. What realy made TDS mainstream is what a lousy candidate hillary was. This whole thing is nothing but an extension of the liberal coup attempt.

I'd love to see you quote me on where I said or implied I love trump. Much like on the old board where I asked you to quote me on where I'd "pounded Carlson into the sand" and you couldn't. I loved Reagan, but much like trump the liberal press hated him too and did their best to make him look like an idiot too. Which again, worked on weak minded people.

But what I especially love is a foreigner trying to tell us what is and isn't based on the bullshit the press puts out on a daily basis.

Since your such an expert on the US, I'm sure you knew our GDP, that's Gross Domestic Product, which is what makes the economy grow, never went above %2.5 for the entire obama administration. It was because of his policy's, and the socialist DNC run press had his back on it. Kept telling us anything above %3 was never going to be possible again and we just had to learn to live like a third world country. Trumps policy's had this county at %3.5 in his second quarter in office. The most recent number, which was adjusted after being released, is %4.7.{the numbers are always adjusted after initial release. For obama they always got adjusted down, meaning things were worse than advertised. So far for Trump the numbers are getting adjusted up} That's nearly double of what obama was capable of. Because obama is an anti American socialist, and socialism always fails. Every. Single. Time. Prior to obama the US never had a president where the GDP never went above %3 for his entire administration. It didn't even happen under FDR, where the only reason The Great Depression lasted so long was because the federal government kept trying to "fix" the economy. The depression didn't end until we got our 16 million service members back home with their 4-5 years of paychecks in '45-'47.

Its you that doesn't get it. And you are too stubborn to see what is right in front if you. Now really who really cares if a player doesn't want to visit the White House. Why do you care so much? Like I said it has absolutely nothing to do with the politics. It has everything to do with Trump himself.
Sounds as if you guys think DSP should respect Trump. Why should he? Has Trump earned it.
Did you make a big deal when Tim Thomas refused to go in 2012? His reason was all political and he is an American.
My point is a lot of people don't like Trump. So what. Who fricken cares. They have the right to do so.   Are you really that much in love with Trump that you need to come to his defense?

I don’t give a shit whether DSP respects Trump.  And yes, I think Tim Thomas was wrong.   My biggest gripe is when individual players make it about them.  All we heard after the Cup win was what a “team” effort this was.  How much they appreciated each other “as a team”.   The “team” may be invited to the White House .... to celebrate what the “team” accomplished.   DSP is making it about him, which I object to.

Wtf is wrong with you guys? Like I said a lot of the professional athletes don't like Trump. So what. Who fucking cares? That is their right. I'm not saying its right or wrong. Its their decision and I respect that. To be honest I would prefer if all players would go whatever their feelings towards Trump are.

I think DSP is following players from the NFL and NBA. I don't think he is making it about himself. I don't understand the big deal.
I'm not saying I agree with his decision but I do respect it. I'd rather see him go.

This is old news. Funny you didn't mention it before. I don't understand what the problem is. DSP doesn't like Trump, so what. A lot of people don't like him. To be honest I don't like him either. Its nots the politics, its the demeanor. Are the Caps even going to be invited to the White House. Trump already cancelled the Superbowl champion Eagle visit and I have heard that the NBA champs the Warriors won't be invited either. Big deal, sports and politics don't belong together anyway.

Yes, it was said before game 5. If he doesn't go, I don't care so much. I wish he would go, if something he doesn't like say it personally.

Agree to disagree.

I don’t agree with DSP’s decision.  And I don’t respect it either.  This isn’t about him, it’s about the team.  Thomas should’ve sucked it up and so should he.

It's more about team unity, play together, go together. Plus it is a long standing tradition. Trump is an odd president, but he is the president of the US, and the people had voted for him.

I never said I agreed with DSP.  Why is it so important that DSP go to the White House?

You guys are looking at this from an American perspective. If the situation was reversed and the team was invited by the government if another nation. Would you guys care if a player refused to go. Probably not.

For all the "entitlement" talk you see from older generations, the extreme Patriotism I see in the country sometimes reminds me of entitlement. "HE HAS TO SHOW THE EXACT LEVELS OF RESPECT WE DO FOR OUR GOVERNMENT, OR ELSE PITCHFORKS!"

If an athlete didn't care about visiting my PM I wouldn't care. That isn't patriotism. When my fellow Albertans race to the need of fellow Fort McMurray citizens due to a massive wildfire that burns down half the city? Now THAT is Patriotism I'll get behind. Supporting your country doesn't mean "you must support every facet of every decision of every person of everything ever done."

But it seems to binary to some people. You either are a patriot and follow all the tenants, or you aren't. The world isn't binary. It's grey, always grey.

No, your the one that's wrong, and it doesn't matter how long you berate us with your opinion about it.

The NFL is dying in this country because these entitled assholes went to London to play, stood respectfully for their anthem then took a knee for ours. It doesn't realy have that much to do with patriotism. It's more about respect, and more importantly, the reason these athletes are protesting is based on lies.

So the Canadian has a hard time understanding why American fans of an an American team in the American capital has a player unwilling to set his personal issues aside for the team to go to the American White House ....... and then tells us we “don’t understand” and we are seeing it from an American perspective?   No shit Sherlock.

DSP has the freedom not to go and the freedom to express his opinion.  No one is being forced to print his words.  It's being publicized because it brings eyeballs to the news sites.  The media isn't impartial as they claim.  They prefer stories of a particular nature.

Regarding Trump and his fitness for office.  The US Constitution clearly lays out the qualifications.  They were met.  You may not like it, but practically anyone can be President.  We have just proven this.  I also think this is an interesting test of our tricameral system.  No one person in our system can become dictator for life.
Trump is the result of certain party doing their best to find the only candidate that could loose to Trump.

Yeah! I mean I get it, DSP doesn't like Trump. He finds him to be racist. But I feel like this is one of those situations where...just grin and bear it, be a good sport, don't be all about you and your feelings and let your TEAM have an experience of a lifetime.

Huh?  And the President hasn't already consistently demonstrated that EVERYTHING is about him and his feelings?  The problem here is that Donald Trump has taken an elegant and revered institution and turned it into the equivalent of a barroom food fight.  If DSP doesn't want to go to the White House, that's his right (free speech and all; if money is speech, than attendance/nonattendance certainly is).

What prevents the President from inviting the Caps to the White House, and if everyone but one player shows up, or if half a dozen players don't show up, simply greet and congratulate the people who are there?  I don't see this thing about if DSP doesn't go than nobody can/should go.  We know what if anything would prevent it -- the President's ego.  If he feels slighted in any way he'll find some way to demean the process or turn the attention back on him.

As for such a visit, free speech goes in both directions; if other players decide they want to go, they should have that right as well.

That you need it explained, is enough for me not to bother..    But keep diggin and you may get a taste!

Oh and for the record, I've not "lost all respect for DSP" Nor am I pissed.. Just think he's cutting his nose off to spite his face here.. He's starts taking a knee for the National anthem, THEN we'll have a problem with DSP!  (Ō_ƆŎ)
You cant explain how its DSPs loss. I don't think its DSPs loss at all. He doesnt wish to make the visit. So what. I have no problem with that.
I agree about the national anthem thing though. Kneeling for the national anthem is disrespectful to the flag and the nation.

Yeah . . . I would much rather athletes keep individual out of it.

Yet if I had to meet Trudeau’s husband, I would just assume challenge him to arm wrestling or Jack Daniels drinking before shaking her hand . . .

But, it’s not about me, or any individual. Tradition is the wining team goes to the White House, not the winning team gets to make political statements.

How do you know he's trying to make a political statement? Maybe he just doesn't want to go because he thinks Trump is a shitty person.
. . .?  And how is that not a political statement?

Bottom line is there are bigger things than personal politics and political drama.  The individual on either side of the handshake are completely insignificant when it comes to the highest office acknowledging achievement.

When it comes to public service positions, there is a difference between the person and the position.  So you should show respect for the position even if you don't agree with the person holding the position.  Yes DSP has the right to not attend without penalty (although his contract might say otherwise) but it is disrespectful to the office of the President of the United States.  Another analogy might be the handshake at the end of the game.  You may not like them or particular individuals, but you do need to show the other team respect.  Yes, you can refuse to do it, but that's not very classy.  This is called etiquette not politics. There are other outlets for your disagreements.

It's ironic how many people who claims to favor freedom and personal liberty think that DSP should be forced to go to the White House.

It's ironic how many people miss the entire point of the protest
