The cubs won the WS and the Caps won the Cup.

Maybe my Blues can too then.. :cross:

I shed tears with the rest of ya. I may not be a fan from the 70's (wasn't born then) but I was a fan of the Bondra team, then seeing "THE GOAL" by young OV turned me on to the caps and I have been following them since.

slayed Cindy and Cinderella in the same playoffs....what an amazing time to be a hockey fan!!!!

Thanks, Ozzies for being with us in bad time and now in a good one!

I was at the very first game in 1974.  I was 18 years old.  Now, I'm 62.  I was up at 2 in the morning when Pat Lafontaine scored in the 4th overtime to win the series. I was watching again when Petr Nedved did the same thing.  I was watching when every single breakdown and bad break happened to destroy the dream.  I've seen every single playoff game ever played by this team and most every regular season game.  I never thought it would happen but it finally did.  Well done boys, well done.
Congrats, i'm only from 2009 when we lost to Pens. Always like hockey, but never been a fan of any team. Always thought it a waist of time. I watch only Caps and Olympics. I'm Capsoholic.

SO FUCKING HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best sports moment of my entire life! I was pacing around frantically during much of the third period, especially in the final 7 minutes when we had the lead. There were definitely times when I just couldn't look at the TV.

A few things:

1) Seeing the pure fucking joy in Ovechkin's face was amazing. You could sense that all the years of heartbreak, all the years of taking blame for the Caps' failures, all the years of being beaten by Crosby and the Pens, all the years of people saying "yeah Ovechkin is great but no Cup," all of that was washed away in a moment. I'm not going to lie (and I feel a bit embarrassed by this), but I teared up when I saw him lift that Cup.

2) Conn Smythe trophy too? Yes fucking please. He deserved it. Yeah sure not as many points as Kuzy, but leading goal scorer, Captain, and just leading by example with the sacrifices and physical play and defensive effort.

3) I will also be the first to admit that I doubted the fuck out of this team. Mind you, I was spot on when I said early on in the season and even during the off season that the Caps would still be a playoff team and would probably be in the top 5-8 teams in the league. I was definitely spot on about that. But I thought there was no way the Caps would beat Columbus down 2-0, no way they would beat the Pens, and no way they would come back from 3-2 against the Lightning. I also didn't think they stood much of a chance against VGK and a "hot" Fleury. I thought there was no way that Ovie was the right Captain for this team (boy was I wrong), and I thought that Gruby should have been the goalie for the playoffs and that Holtby wouldn't recover his old form (funny how Gruby lost his first two games, and Holtby got us to the Cup). Never been happier to be wrong.

4) After having tasted victory, I'd of course love to see the Caps win again, but goddamn I will die happy knowing that the boys won it this year. The Caps might have fallen short of another Presidents' Trophy, and Ovie might have fallen short of another 50 goal season, but goddamn they did not fall short of the Stanley Cup.

5) Round of applause for VGK. Stellar season considering they have a bunch of young "misfits." VGK fans shouldn't feel bad. Their team wrecked in their first year, and it seems like a championship will not take too long to achieve if they keep it up. Still, considering VGK is an expansion team and has a wide "window," it was way better to see Ovie win it all, cementing his career before his window shut for good.

6) I'm sure I sound like a nerd, but I'm also excited to watch like every documentary about this championship team, and just relive their journey over and over again.

You didn't get a pic of the woman in the white dress? She tried to steal the show.

Go pack a couple pages in this thread.  I posted it.

This last series restored my faith in fairness. We were the better team and we won. In the process, we actually got some breaks and fair officiating. We were so used to it being the other way around that we expected the worse. I’m sure a lot of Caps fans cringed when Backstrom missed the open net and fully expected Vegas to go on to win the game and the series.

Well, we deserved to win and we did!

Great point!  We had very good reason in the past to question the integrity of the league and officials. Except for a few games which had some of the worst officiating I've seen, overall they did a pretty good job. All the times that I was sure the refs were going to make calls based on the scoreboard they surprised and just called it straight.  It was as it should be.
It's a refreshing feeling.  Thanks for bringing it up.

I found this most awesome super hi-resolution team photo.  You definitely want to right-click on it and save this one.

Had a fun time tracking down Stanley Cup merchandise today in the Virginia suburbs!  Made two trips to Dick's, where about 50 people (and more streaming in after me) patiently waited for boxes of t-shirts to arrive on a big truck that was making stops on route 7 headed west to all of the Dick's stores on the way.  The employees didn't even have time to tag the shirts--we were just happy to (politely) rummage through the boxes right off the truck!  It was funny, everyone bonding over the experience.

I recorded 4 of the 5 games in the Cup final (one mysteriously got deleted) and now WISH I had recorded every game throughout the playoffs.  Sigh.  Would have made for great summertime television... ;D

The ironic thing about that photo is that Coach Trotz is almost out of the picture.

I saw this two weeks ago, but didn't watch it til now. Probably the only one outside of DC that got the prediction right...

The first game I truly remember watching was the Isles Easter game...  Pretty much every game since.  Cheers wayne.  I'm still reveling in this.  Stanley Cup Champions!  FINALLY!

Craps no longer.  Choking dogs no longer.  Cupless no longer.  We are the champions, my friend!

Congrats to all you guys that are long time Caps diehards. I’ve only been on board the last aten years. Some of you saw my post a few months ago about growing up a Blues fan and my Mom taking me to games and then me taking my daughters to the Caps games.

Well, I ended up taking one daughter to Game 3 and the other to Game 4 and that was as special to me as winning the Cup was for Ovi.
