Kovalchuk returning to NHL
« on: Thursday May 31, 2018, 11:34:54 AM Eastern »
Please don't let the Caps be one of the teams he's talking to. I don't remember why he walked out on the Devils 5 years ago. Maybe someone else does. He's a good player and all, but I never saw the talent that demanded the contract the Devils gave him. I know I don't want him to play in Washington.

in the link it says Kovalchuk is 35, which makes him 10 years younger than Jágr

I told several months ago that he wants to return in NHL for new challenge.
There is a big rumor that he can join Rangers or Florida,at his 35 he plays pretty good and was 1 of the best players in Russian squad during hockey Olympic games and KHL season, however his salary demands are too high around $7-$10 mill per year  ;D

Actually if he's willing to sign for value ergo 5mill or under he may be able to fit on here. Especially since I don't know if we keep Carlson, and we will likely have to rely on promotion or an underrated d signing ala a Kempny to fill our D slot, so we should still have Cap.

Keep in mind that his style of play would work very well with either Kuzy or Backstrom, and with Wislon and Oshie up there for had workers you'd really be cementing a pretty elite top six. He's also just returning to the league, likely hungry to get a Cup here before he calls it a career. What better place to do that then with your Russian Olympic pals who just went deep?

I wouldn't hate it, tbh. We'll see how things unfold.

He wants same as Ovie, i'm not sure his physical now, but low price for one year should work. He wasn't bad and with Zack Parise NJD got into Finals. Obviously he screwed them salary cap and they lost Zack in favor of Kovy.

If he is for fame, he needs to join the Caps or TB, may be Pens. Considering he is a friend of Ovie, our team should work best for him. But if his demand is to high, it is better to pass right away. He is much more adequate than Radulov.

It is funny that i was talking about Kovalchuk decision to return in NHL when Caps were struggling at the end of the season and it could be best Challenge for him to help Caps go on next level in offense .However, for now Caps showing 1 of the best performance  for 20 years and I’m not sure if he would help,on the other hand he improved his performance since he left Devils and for now he is more versatile player similar to Pavel Datsyk, interestingly last 2 khl seasons they were playing together in same team and that’s why he has learned a lot from him, thus personaly I will be happy if he would  join Caps for adequate salary because it can make our offense as a beast !

I'm glad we didn't bite. I feel like offensively we're good enough and don't need to sink $6.25 million a year on another top 6 guy when we've already got enough of them. Our bottom 6 and defensive depth are, imo, more critical areas.

I think the price tag is fair, it should be good for LA. If he is near what he was in NJD playing in PO, that can be a boost.
