I've seen the racing where they go around the pylons, but not through them. That was sick. I've done a fair bit of flying myself. That shit's just crazy. How many of those guys bite the dust?

I think over the years I've seen or heard of two crashes, don't recall hearing of any deaths. I did notice last night with the in cockpit shots they all have chutes on. The Reno air races, which is circling the pylons, has had some spectacular crashes and deaths over the years, but they are also going as fast as a piston prop can physically go, at 100 feet off the ground. The Red Bull air races have an actual speed limit to keep costs down. When entering the course the max speed is 200kts and during the race there is an engine rpm limit enforced. Red Bull is a world tour and will have one or two stops in the U.S. every season.
