Grubs was playing better behind the same awful defense.

Was he though? I don't recall many (if any) games where Gruby faced multiple odd man rushes? I know the 1st shot was going in a lot on Holtby, then he'd face a couple/three odd man breaks and only stop 1 or 2. A PP goal or two would deflect in and it's a 3-4 goal game your offense has to match..  Don't recall Gruby having to play behind that nonsense much, if at all.. Least not while he's been "hot"..

I'm certainly glad the D (and Grubs) has looked better the last month or so, but Holtby has looked better right along with them. The more I'm thinking about this the more I'm not seeing a path for Holtby to still be here (willingly) next year.. Unless Gruby gets yanked early in the series and Holtby carries us to a cup.

Scenario A: Gruby does good and we get past the 2nd round.. Holtby accepts he's not the starter anymore and asks to be traded.
Scenario B: Gruby gets the starts and we lose in round 1 or 2 again.. Holby's says thanks for nothing and asks to be traded.
Scenario C: Gruby gets pulled and Holtby takes us deeper than round 2.. Holtby still asks to be traded cause he's pissed he wasn't the starter to begin with..
Scenario D: Grubs is pulled, Holtby takes us to a Cup.. Everyone kisses his ass and all is forgiven. (Though he still might say fuck off) lol

Maacoshark:
Holtby definitely had to face more odd man rushes than Grubauer. The one I remember most was Kane and Toews with a 2 on 0. Holtby actually made the save but couldn't stop the renound.
Yes Grubauer had the same guys playing in front of him but he played against a lot of offensively challenged teams. He started 3 games against the Sabres this season and actually lost to them once. Weren't the Sabres the 31st best team in the league.

Yes, in your own words the first shot was going in a lot on Holtby. That wasn't happening with Gruby because he was playing better than Holtby at the time. I'm not claiming that overall Gruby is better or that he's the playoff savior. Just saying he was playing better while Holtby was REALLY struggling.

Anyone know the lyrics?

Pretty surprised by this decision. Despite my doubts of Holtby which I posted in another thread, I really believed Trotz was going back to him to start game 1. And I liked the idea. I was hoping he would have known he has a short leash and would play inspired. But now it I think it's a desperate move by Trotz and I'm worried. As much as Grubby has played, he still hasn't played as much as Holtby this season. I guess one good thing is neither of them are overworked going into the playoffs.

One thing seems clear, this could be Trotz's last season as well as Holtby's. Unless....unless the unthinkable happens.

I refuse to into the playoffs with no optimism so LETS GO CAPS!

The fulcrum  in optimism and delusion is reality.  Same as with pessimism and defeatism.

The reality is, this group has very little chance at beating four of the sixteen teams, four out of seven, four times in a row.  They are simply not built with a roster physicaly and mentally capable to do it without extraordinary external factors that given said makeup  have extremely low probability of happening.

Any thoughts  of  “the hockey gods will be all on our side”, “we’ll just want it more”, “we’re as good as anyone else”, “in Kuzy and Grubby we trust”, . .  is simply delusional and Rockin The Red Kool Aid
