I think Frank and his speed would really help against Carolina.  If not him, bring up Miro or Lappy, or somebody. I actually don't think this is fair to Leonard.

Caps lose game 1 in OT

Well deserved loss. Played like  all night. Protas goal was basically luck. Hopefully they can figure out how to play hockey on Thursday..

That game was just inexplicable. We had no energy, lost every battle and made lousy passes.  I'm just baffled.


Carbs needs to light them up - every single one of them.  Then they need to make some changes.  Leonard out. Mangiopani out.  Eller out.  Bring in some guys that will act like its the playoffs.

Keep it going.. Chychrun out, Dubois out, Alexeyev out. I didin't realize how fucking slow Alexeyev is.. And he's not that good to boot. But Dubois and Chychrun make way too much money to play that shitty. Dumb passes, no effort.. Whole team sucked ass the entire game. 13 shots is pathetic. It's too bad they made such a stink about Leonard. Dude has AHL written all over him.

What a disgrace putting the whole burden on Thompson.  This thing will go four games at this rate.  We could barely make a pass, get it in zone or keep it in there for more than five seconds.  McMichael had a horrific game but most everybody was bad.  The one bright spot was actually Carlson.  That was his best game in years.  Time to sit Leonard.  He hasn't produced squat and gets pushed around because he's small.  Looking ahead, this team has to get younger, bigger and faster, especially on the blue line.

wow.  its like we were too tired to pass the puck.  the weak passes just fed Carolina's game style.  Wow we looked bad.
I knew we would look rusty, but not like....rusted through to the point there's no metal left.
No energy, no push, no nothing. Wasted a good game by Thompson..and had a chance to absolutely steal it, but pffffffffffffff
I thought Carolina would be a bad match up because they thrive on what we are weak at, but honestly the way the guys played, Anyone would have had us in 5

Could have been the worst game they played in the last 20 years - it was that bad.  He HAS to take Leonard out and that should have happened long ago. Raddysh may not be that great, but he is a bigger body that won't hurt us. I would actually like to see Frank who would bring some speed and energy to the game.


One thing I don't understand is when we are pinned in our own zone - why do our two top forwards stay in the middle of the zone and not pressure the point?  I know it is to just block shots, but why not have those two go man-on-man with the two point-men. Just shadow them and prevent the other team from constantly throwing the puck to the point and cycling it.  This has driven me crazy for years.

Well, there's losing a game and then there's getting completely dominated at home, in game 1 of a playoff series. Not sure how you come back from that. I figured we'd be rusty, but to be dominated the entire 60+ minutes is embarrassing. Not sure how you forget how to make an accurate pass, but damn if we didn't. lol Lady luck won't keep us in many games. They hit the post 5 fucking times. Should of been at least a 4 goal deficit.. See what they come up with for game 2. But yea, Im over the Leonard experiment too. I like his energy, but he's too small and not enough skill for the NHL. Too many chances to never put one past a goalie. I'll take Raddysh or Frank. I'd also take Bear or Big Mac over Alexeyev. He's too slow and not that good. They'll definitely need a retool in the offseason. Missing Fever for sure..

On the bright side, the Caps did make a game of it despite playing poorly. If they can clean of their performance a bit they should be able to win the series. Another one which we all knew wasn’t going to be a 4 game sweep.

Its odd i just watched the 10 min condensed game and strictly from that...it looks like an even match.  We hit the post 3 times, had good PP scoring chances, had some break aways, etc.  Carolina wins by attrition ...they just keep throwing shit at the net and eventually one goes in (like in OT), but legit scoring chance wise these two were not that far apart. 
I know they dominated the play, but legit scoring chance wise - it was fairly even.  Do i want to witness another game played like this....HELLL NO!  Seems like we generated some good turnovers after hitting them.  Maybe we can try some more of that.
I like big Mac but he's not exactly a speed demon either.  He sure as hell will hit people and clear the crease tho.
How quickly can we age the younger Protas?  We need him bad.  We sure as hell need a couple young D with size tho.

Exactly.  Watch Carolina.  They pressure the point, or wherever the puck is, constantly.  The way to defend is to force a decision by the guy with the puck before he really wants to make one.  That's what leads to success in either end of the ice.  It's also why Carolina outchanced us by about 3-1 or more.  We stood around way too much rather than get after the guy with the puck.
