You poor guy, alta.  You've been all alone on this page.

Caps fortunate to gut out a point in this one - even 7 out of 10 points on the trip is a definite win.  7 standings points in 5 games projects to about 115 points for the season.

Well I'll be darned. Ovi scored and they stole a point!

Not sure what was going on in OT. Send out Dowd for an O zone draw, he loses it. Then at the other end, he completely forgets they're 3 on 3 and leaves his man?  Oof..

Ya - I've been calling for Carbs to start Dowd in OT to get the faceoff and thought he would be really good. Turns out Carbs knows more about hockey than I do.....

Well, the good thing about this game was that it got some key guys going again - McMike and Strome.  And getting a goal from Ovi always helps.  They are gonna have a stinker every now and then, but I thought the did just fine in 5 on 5 and ended up with 7 out of 10 points on the trip. Not bad.

What a great comeback to steal a point.   Our stellar away record continues.

We need some sort of Ref review.  There was some creativitly.  More Picasso than Gainsborough and TWO penalty shots?   8-0

Wow...what a stinker.  I mean the first 2 periods the Caps looked like they were skating in slush...totally out of sync, couldn't get out of there own way, couldn't make a pass, everything they did was a beat behind.  The looked really, really, really SLOW.
Now...on the bright side, and in perspective...end of a long and grueling road trip which does take its toll.  They just didn't have it last night, yet they managed to sack up and steal a point in the third period.
3 great things happened though: McMike scored, Strome scored, Ovi scored.  Four things...We actually had a coach's challenge, goalie interference call go our way for once.
Also, hard to get the team in sync with the amount of PK/PP - just crazy.  I think was was only one 5 on 5 goal all night?  Strome I think.
Ovie looked like the slowest skater on the ice all night.  At least he can still shoot, but he's a liability alot of the time.
Lastly...WTF was with the penalty calls...and the 2 Penalty shots...FFS the first one the guy did not even have the puck - how in the blue fuck can that be a penalty shot.  Second one.....Protas hustles his ass off, gets back and taps the guys stick...not sure its even a penalty, much less a penalty shot.
Three teams played last night....Caps, Sens, and Refs.  All had impact on the game.

Considering the Caps only played one period of hockey and come from 2 goals down in the third, I'm satisfied with this outcome.
Hope they rest up and bring their A game for Saturday vs the Jets.

I thought it was interesting that, in his postgame comments, Carbery was surprisingly positive about the team.  He pointed out the screwups, sort of matter-of-factly, but complimented their effort to come back in that last 12 minutes and their 5 on 5 play in general.  He didn't say much about Lindgren, but this looked like one of those nights where you could say the goalie was good in a game where he allowed 5 goals.  He helped hold the team in there, and there was really nothing he could do on any of the goals they scored.  I think the comments Carbery made are another reason the team and the organization are so thrilled with him - he knows when to be more blunt with his comments and when to back off because of the context.

Is it a surprise that Ovie would look like the slowest player on the ice?  At 39 years old, coming back from a broken leg, what else is to be expected?  I'm a little concerned about Ovie breaking the Gretzky record now, even with next year still on his contract.  I could easily see him scoring, say, only another half dozen goals or so in the remainder of the regular season, THEN possibly having a relatively long run in the playoffs, and coming back after a short summer, at age 40, still needing a dozen goals or so to break the record.  Father Time IS undefeated.  It is always possible that his play could go off a cliff next year and he wouldn't get there.

Saturday's game is going to be REALLY tough.  Winnipeg is top-notch, they'll be focused because they and the Caps are front-runners for home ice advantage throughout the playoffs, and the first game back after a road trip actually feels like the last game of the trip - it's travel to another venue, which just happens to be home ice.

i agree...i was surprised at Carberry...I expected him to be very unhappy as the team did look like warm doo-doo the first 2 periods.  He really seams like the real deal, and has all the tools both on and off the ice.  He is certainly leading this team to unexpected success this season beyond my wildest expectations.

Ovi...yeah I'm not expecting him to burn anyone with speed, but he needs to manage his shifts better.  He was on for a (shitty) power play for the full PP and had an opportunity to get off with less than 10 seconds left as we transition thru neutral...instead he stayed on then got hemmed in the d-zone for another full minute where he was a total liability.  He can still shoot the puck and score, but his board work is terrible - he needs to realize how to help his team.  I'm not knocking him, he IS the great 8, but he just needs to manage time a bit better to provide the best opportunity to score.
Carbs is certainly cutting his ice time down, which i think is smart, but i was surprised last night how much time he was on the ice at the end of the game.  It's great when he scores though - really does help drive this team.

Yes, Winnipeg will be tough. Hope the boys flew home last night so they have a more normal day today.

Oh, and Protas is a full-on stud - that dude hustles all over the ice.  Man what a player he as made himself to be, and he uses his size and reach to his advantage.  He's great on the boards, good speed, plays hard both ways, and found a scoring touch for sure. Loving his play.  What a fucking steal he is at 3.3 mil LOL.

A few people wrote him off at the beginning of this season and he tore it up, untill the injury.  There is no reason that the same won't be true next year and he can still pick it up for the rest of this season.   It's not as if he's down at the bottom of the  team in scoring.   Where is he exactly?
Carbs is being very clever in managing Ovi's minutes.

When Ovi has a target to aim for, he'll go for it.   That's his mentality.   He did have a slump, but that was when his dad died.   Yes, he is slowing down and pain hurts more the older you get.   That's not going to stop him.

Have some faith people.  This is Ovi we're talking about.   :hearts:
