That's a long way to say... " I don't know" :snicker:
Kidding, but yeah I don't know if Protas junior season is considered behind him...I saw somewhere speculated that yeah he we be in Hershey to watch. I'm just curious what they do with him next year. As productive as he was, why not move him to AHL, but then....I don't know the rules.
On another note...Hens fire Sullivan (well technically they agreed to part ways). Not sure how that differs from firing, maybe his contract was up? I don't expect he will have trouble finding a job.

BlakeIce - good review of the situation. I don't understand why they would have differences between the European players and the other and all the age restrictions. I would think that the players would have bargained for more open movement and not age restrictions. I get it that they don't want to risk boys playing with men and getting hurt, but it should be a free market.
It could be that we have 2 or 3 surprise players that make the team next year and take spots that we thought were going to Lappy and Miro. I guess that is a good thing, but we were excited about those two guys for a while.

Okay so i got a little bit of conflicting info on this but...
* CHL players (CHL consists of OHL, WHL, QMJHL, and ages 16-20) must play 4 seasons in CHL or reach age 20 before moving from CHL to AHL level.
* However, CHL players can play for the AHL affiliate at the conclusion of the OHL season (or any CHL; OHL, WHL, QMJHL team)
* OHL players can also be loaned to the NHL club and play at the NHL level as long as they return to their CHL team prior to the begin of next season.
* OHL players who are under contract by an NHL team CAN be loaned from the OHL team to the AHL affiliate team on a "temporary assignment to the AHL team (the loan has no time limit so it could be a temporary assignment loan for the entire season)
* OR the under 20 player can remain on the NHL team if they are listed on the NHL active roster at the beginning of the NHL season, regardless of age.Although with the CHL/NHL agreement details above..it appears you can LOAN an OHL player to the AHL affiliate anytime, so what's the point of the age/term restriction at all?
The rules above apply to players drafted from the CHL development leagues (OHL, WHL, QMJHL). IF the player is a drafted from a European junior or pro league, there is no age requirement or CHL term requirement for those players whatsoever. (Generally they are required to fulfill any commitment previously made to a Euro team by the player) These players can be moved to the AHL team anytime (AHL minimum 18 years old)
I believe this is where our young Protas fits in. He was a drafted as an Euro player who was technically loaned to the OHL team after he was drafted (and signed) by the Capitals.
None of the above applies to a NCAA/college players. A college player cannot play for any CHL/AHL/NHL team and then return to college. They must commit to a pro status and then can move to AHL/NHL with no age restriction. (like our young Mr Leonard)
I guess technically Protus is on loan to AHL Hershey and is still technically an OHL roster player. That could change at the beginning of the next season, but it appears there is no restriction on moving him to the AHL, which is where I'd assume he would go based on his performance this season.
but then....WTF do I know?

I think we (I) keep expecting us to find our next Ovi, Oshie, Nicky, Kuzy type skill player and we just don't have any. Was hoping Miro or Leonard, McMike or Lapierre (and now Cristall or ProtasJr) could be the guy, but it's just wishful thinking, I guess. :-\ Maybe they'll turn into something more than I've seen, but I've really not even seen a glimpse of "super stardom" from anyone in our pipeline. Currently Protas is about as good as we have, which is great! But still, no supers..
