Did not see that coming after coming out flat as a pancake. Ovi gets one as well!! Interesting circumstances coming up. Really hope they don't get stupid. Even not selling is better than buying. Just don't give away any assets and I'll be content.
But here's where things can get complicated, Mick. Carbery apparently reamed the team out up one side and down the other after their performance against Detroit. He is obviously playing this straight, thinking that this team can still make the playoffs. And for almost 20 years this franchise has been "playing it straight" as a nod to Ovechkin, fulfilling Leonsis' promise to Ovie that he'd try to make the team as competitive as possible while he was around. This has led to some questionable acquisitions and spending of assets over the years, albeit in a good-faith attempt to give the team what management thought was every reasonable chance for success.
Here we are, seeing the need for a rebuild in the very near future and cringing at the thought of giving up assets once again over the next week. But this team COULD see things differently, thinking that they need to make a good faith administrative effort to get into the playoffs, which are increasingly seen as a crapshoot independent of the regular season. The one thing I see that may get in the way of doing that is that the Caps need scoring above anything else, and there isn't a lot of that available among the players rumored to be moving next week.
