Ok Mick, let’s test you memory.. pre chase points earning you got bonus points for leading a lap, points for leading the most laps and points for leading at the halfway mark. Was it one point for leading a lap, 5 for most laps and 5 for halfway?
Also of note, when bonus points for leading at halfway were awarded, they didn’t throw a caution so everyone could pit and reset the field. They just kept runnin.

I wouldn't bank much on my memory... lol But I think they were all just 1 point, back in the day? Though I don't really remember the half way point(s)? Leading a lap was 1 and leading the most was 1, iirc.. They may have upped them at some point.
* Just googled it.. We're both wrong. From 75' - 2010 it was 5 points for leading a lap and 5 for leading the most.
Those were the days though. My first memory of actual bonus points mattering, was in 92'.. Elliott blew a big point lead in the last few races to Kulwicki, who needed bonus points in Atlanta to win the Championship. Seems like they used some weird strategy to do it? Ran long on fuel maybe? Can't remember.. :raspberry:
* Just googled that too.. Elliott won the race but Kulwicki lead 103 laps to Elliots 102 for the extra 5 points.

We need more "plate" style tracks! That way you can spend 3 hours watching and have zero clue who's any good or not, close your eyes, throw a dart at a board and find out who wins! :wackysmile:
JGR Atlanta Recap: (They showed up with junk to begin with. All qualifying outside the top 20, then 3 of 4 needing "adjustments" that started them all at the tail of the field)
Hamlin played chicken little in the back all day, waiting for a crash that never happened (until he tried to go with 2 laps left and got caught up in one) Finished 24th. lol
Gibbs ran top 10 at the end of both stages, climbed into the lead late, then got shuffled out and dropped to 18th within 2 laps.
Bell made zero noise (as usual) showed up at the end to finish 4th (as usual)..
No clue what Truex did. He finished 35th. (as usual)

Truex got a bad vibration from this, and nascrap wont let them fix anything to continue the race..
