Strome extended for 5 years. 5mil per seems a little high, but I guess that's just the market these days?

Yea, $5M per is a touch high, but, he has settled in at 1C so it’s probably what it should be

Wow.  Wasn't really expecting that right now.  Well when you have some much cash to burn...

That's probably a fair number for Strome at his age.  I guess the Caps like what they saw in him.  He was a 1st round pick and a#3 overall.  He was an absolute steal at 3.5m this year.  I can't believe he couldn't do better especially on a 1 year deal.  He must of really wanted out of Chicago.

I wonder if this will have any impact on Kuzy.  Like hint, hint, nudge, nudge....someone is writing on the wall Kuzy and your name is in it...wake the fuck up dude.

That's 25.5m worth of Centers on this team currently, not counting Dowd.  Well technically, I guess Strome is 3.5 this year, and Eller has no contract next year, so not really 22.5
23.3m with Backy, Kuzy, Strome, Dowd next year.

I'd say they got to part with Eller or Kuzy next year.

It seems high to me. I mean Strome has been ok,  He has had some good stretches, but other stretches where I can't even remember if he played. I'm hoping the Caps can evolve in their approach and go after guys that have hard core desire - guys like Hathaway.  Strome just seems to be another average guy.

If this team is a buyer at the trade deadline, they are nuts. We are the oldest team in the league and I believe we have the lowest ranked farm system in the league - not a good combination.  We need to be a seller and get some picks.

I don't mind having a few down years, but I can't take prolonged agony with nothing coming through the system.

No clue what they'll do at the deadline, but one way or another they'll be sellers when the season is done. The deadline is the yard sale. If nothing sells, end of season is trash pickup day.  :raspberry: :snicker:

Very cute, but otherwise the NHL skills competition was a clown show.  Fastest skater is fun, hardest shot is what it is, but that surfboard dunk tank and the golf thing was pathetic.
The clown show shoot out think was gay.  And I don't mean that in a good way.

WTF have they done to the NHL?

I was so interested I watched 0 minutes of it.  :raspberry:  I read where the arena was half empty. I was thinking, after reading the place was dead, that I can watch the NHL skills competition every night on NHL Tonight, NHL Top Shelf, etc. Don't think anyone really cares anymore for these "all star" games. Just another way for sports to make some money off the fans. Can't wait to read about the NFL Flag Football "ASG".. Im sure everyone tuned into that!

Another extension! Milano 3 x 1.9m (again, about .4 -.5m more than I'd of expected, but whatever. it's only money)  :raspberry:

Milano deal is ok, just hope he isn't going to flame out. He is good if he really hustles all the time, but these undersized smurf guys aren't what we need unless they can really fly.

Agree on the All Star skills embarrassment.  That was just childish.   Maybe it would be good for the AHL, but this is the NHL!

some big money has to go at the end of this season, and just letting Eller walk ain’t gonna cut it

Yup. Eller, Mantha and either another expensive contract or a few good role players.

the flyover was embarrassingly late, 8pm start turned into 8:24, the stands sure look packed though

I enjoyed about 45 minutes of it. Once they broke for the halftime rap fest and the racing turned into a shit show I was just waiting for it to end. No idea why every spin needs 5+ minutes to rerack and restart. Hopefully that'll be the last of the go-cart track races. Put them on racetracks at least.

Wow.  1.9 For Milano is probably fair for the level he is currently playing at, but the dude was basically walking the street jobless when the season began.  I hope he's not a one season flash in the pan.
Strome is now contracted further into the future than any player on the Caps.

Team is definitely gonna shed some salary.  They'll probably make a great deal like send Kuzy packing for a bag of pucks plus a draft pick.  Mantha will be harder - prolly take 2-3 draft picks to sweeten his deal.

Then the Caps will prolly let UFA guys like SHeary and Hathy walk and get signed elsewhere for like 1.7m each  :raised-eyebrow:

Team is going to look different next year for sure.  Bunch of UFA's on this team.  The entire current starting D core is due for contracts.
5 guys are UFA's and ALexeyev and Fehevary are both RFA's with everyone else UFA

Hopefully they make some changes for the future instead of just trying to hang on again and again.

Did anyone catch the ESPN Ovi Gr8tness special that was aired Feb 4th?

I never heard anything about it until saw this "trailer" today...which is 3 days too late.

I was wondering if it was any good.  I would have liked to have seen it.

I’ve been busy all afternoon on Saturdays. I’m sure it will get rerun, maybe even put on the you tube
