Meanwhile the Pens get Erik Karlsonn. I'm not sure what to think about this as they were able to dump a few non-essential guys and dump some salary, only to take on a huge contract. They also gave up a 2024 1st round pick (unless it is a top 10 pick). Most people are rating this as a big win for Dubas, the new GM and it just shows that the Pens are not afraid to make big changes - unlike the Caps. If Karlsonn plays like he did last year for the next several years, it is a big win. If he plays like he did two years ago, it was a very bad move.

Yea, they got him til he's 36 @ 10m per year. So, Wilson's contract doesn't look that bad in comparison.

I don't really think $6.5m is over paying for Willie. As Mick said...fighting will be less and less a factor. The real question is the knee - and Willie looked pretty damn good (fast) by end of last year. Of course....maybe that's just in comparison to the old slow guys he's skating with on this team?
I think Willie can still have a huge impact throughout this contract. Yes last two years is worse than the first 5, but that is true of ANY contract.
Mickstix:
Every team in the league would give 6.5m for Willy. Length of contract is the only issue. And I still think it's fine. If he can stay away from chronic injuries (unlike Nicky) he can still play those late years on PK, agitator, enforcer, shut down 4th line forward minutes, as well as bang in a few goals. It's just if you lose multiple steps (Nicky) and can't keep up at all is when you become a huge liability. In a perfect world they sit Nicky on the pine until the PP, but that's not feasible.

GMBM keeps saying he’s still looking to improve the top six. The only way that happens is moving salary, lots of it.
