Snoozefest, I guess - I haven't seen anything about the game other than comments that the Caps didn't seem to be working too hard. Hard to believe that Vanacek stole anything when Arizona had only 19 shots, unless most of them were 10-bell chances.
I noted something interesting - despite what everyone in the hockey world seems to agree is mediocre goaltending, the Caps are one of three teams (along with Minnesota and Chicago) with 5 shootout victories. I think, since the Caps have had 11 OTL of which at least 9 are losses in the OT period, that they have no more than 2 shootout losses. Not a bad result for mediocre goaltending.
People say the only remaining drama is whether we can catch Pittsburgh. But at this point the Caps are tied with Boston as well, though Boston has a game in hand (and 5 games in the last 7 days of the season, including 2 back-to-backs with travel). If we were to pass Boston rather than the Pens in the standings, then wouldn't they play FLA and we play our Division winner? Passing Pittsburgh means a 2/3 Metro matchup in the first round, which might be slightly preferable, but the way Florida is playing right now, avoiding them in the first round at all costs would seem to be the most important outcome.

I guess "stole" is a little strong.. Whether it was luck or skill he did keep a few 10 bell chances out of the net. We'd of been toast against a more skilled team though. We put a bunch of shots on their tender, but nothing scary. Best shot of the night hit the post (Mantha) and some "nearly, just missed, almost" stuff. VV looked good for the full 60 minutes, which is a rare feat these days.
waynerivers:
Vanacek looked much more under control than Samsonov. Usually the less amount of movement, the better unless they're coming out to cut down angles. Quire a few times this year, Samsonov has overcommitted so much to a move to one side that he's out of position and can't dig his skate in and get a push off to the other post. Vanacek is guilty of that occasionally but looks much calmer in goal than Sammy. They should stick with VV.
Big test tonight the way Toronto has pushed us around in two games. This will tell us if anything other than 8th is realistic.
